It’s been unclear what the future held for The Purge series after the last movie came out in 2021, but a sixth film could be released earlier than fans think.
With five movies and a brief TV show already released, The Forever Purge ended on a note that changed the core idea of the series – it got rid of the one-night rule for the Purge, meaning violence could happen anytime. This opens up possibilities for future stories to show how society completely falls apart, rather than just focusing on a single night. Although it’s been four years since the last installment and fans wondered if the series would continue, the producer has hinted that more films are planned.
According to a recent report from ComicBook.com, producers are talking about making a sixth Purge movie. James DeMonaco, who created the first film, is also helping to develop the story. Brad Fuller, one of the producers, is excited about the possibility of working with DeMonaco on another installment.
Fuller mentioned that involving the original creator would be a big asset while developing the next ‘Purge’ film, ‘Purge 6’. He also suggested fans might see some returning characters, and specifically hinted at the possibility of Frank Grillo reprising his role as Sergeant Leo Barnes.
Grillo has confirmed he’ll be back for the next movie. He told ScreenRant last year that the story and characters are already largely planned. Here’s what the actor had to say:
This could be the final installment in the series, almost like a director who keeps coming back for ‘one last’ film. James DeMonaco is set to direct, but it depends on the budget. They’re deciding how large in scale the movie will be and how much money to invest, especially given how much they’ve already done with this franchise. However, the script itself is excellent.
While there’s no official release date yet, James DeMonaco is currently writing a script for a sixth Purge movie. This suggests that the film is moving beyond the planning stages and could become a reality soon. Fans might not have to wait much longer to see the world of The Purge return to theaters.
There is currently no official release date for The Purge 6 at the time of this article’s publication.
