When I first tested the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro in late 2024, I immediately considered it nearly perfect for Xbox. While I had a few small complaints initially, and some updates have been needed over the past year, it remains a top-tier controller.

The original Razer controller was top-of-the-line for serious gamers and professionals when it came out. However, Razer is always innovating, and I’ve been really impressed with their new Raiju V3 Pro – it’s a PS5 and PC controller with even more advanced features.

What’s interesting is that this combines features from both of those controllers, and it’s currently only available on PC.

The Wolverine V3 Pro 8K PC – or simply the Wolverine V3 Pro – looks similar to its predecessor but features internal upgrades and an incredibly fast 8,000Hz polling rate, which is far higher than most other controllers currently available.

For top-notch performance right away, this is the product you need. It’s perfect timing with the release of Black Ops 7, and I plan on using it to play!

How does the Wolverine V3 Pro 8K PC differ from the Wolverine V3 Pro

The Wolverine V3 Pro 8K PC looks and feels very similar to last year’s model. While it doesn’t have an Xbox button, you can still use the Razer button in its place to open the Xbox Game Bar on your computer if you’d like.

I’ve found the Wolverine V3 Pro 8K PC controller has really comfortable grips – they actually wrap around the front, which is a nice design choice. The button layout is identical to the Xbox version, so it feels familiar, but aesthetically, it’s gone for a sleek, all-black look that I personally like a lot.

Designed specifically for PC gamers, this controller no longer has a headset jack on the bottom. Like the Raiju V3 Pro, it also omits rumble motors, catering to competitive players. This design choice makes it significantly lighter than the Xbox version – about 84 grams (0.19 pounds) lighter, to be exact.

One of the best things about this controller is its fast response time. Some serious gamers even modify their controllers to achieve this, but you won’t need to do that here. While the Wolverine V3 Pro already has a quick 1,000Hz polling rate on PCs, this newer model is even faster.

For context, the Wolverine V3 Pro tops out at 250Hz on Xbox Series X|S. 8,000 is a lot more.

Why should I even care about a higher polling rate?

Just like you need a fast monitor for gaming, a quick controller is essential for competitive play. This means minimizing delay – and a high polling rate helps achieve that.

It’s all about giving yourself every slight edge.

The polling rate determines how frequently your controller sends information to your computer. For example, a polling rate of 8,000Hz means the Wolverine V3 Pro sends your button presses and movements to the computer 8,000 times every second.

This results in a very quick response time – a polling interval of just 0.125 milliseconds. Even at 1,000Hz, the delay is only 1 millisecond. However, realistically, a person probably wouldn’t be able to notice the difference.

Compared to typical Xbox controllers (125Hz) or even higher-end models like the Wolverine V3 Pro (250Hz on Xbox), playing on PC offers a noticeably faster response time. The difference is most apparent for those seeking the absolute best performance.

When it comes to gaming, speed and quality matter. If you’ve invested in a great monitor and powerful PC, you’ll want a top-of-the-line controller to complete the experience. Razer delivers that competitive edge.

So what’s the Wolverine V3 Pro 8K PC like to use?

Simply put, this device is fantastic. It feels as comfortable in your hands and is as easy to use as the Wolverine V3 Pro, but it’s noticeably lighter. As I’ve gotten older, that makes a big difference – my wrists don’t hurt nearly as much after extended use, especially with this lighter, PC-focused model.

As an analyst, I’ve been putting the Wolverine V3 Pro through its paces, and while the performance is incredible, I don’t believe technology alone can make someone a better gamer. Honestly, I can’t visually tell the difference between this controller running at 1000Hz and the Raiju V3 Pro at 2000Hz. However, it *is* undeniably responsive – it’s the most responsive controller I’ve ever used.

My tests with the Gamepadla Polling tester confirm it’s performing well. It consistently reports a polling rate of about 7,500Hz – not quite 8,000Hz, but very near it. Keep in mind that the actual rate can also vary depending on your computer.

The headset reaches a maximum polling rate of about 6,250Hz when plugged into the USB ports on the computer case, but gets closer to 8,000Hz when connected directly to the motherboard’s USB port. A latency under 0.2ms is incredibly fast – it’s the best you can expect from any high-end gaming controller currently available.

As an analyst, I’ve been testing the connection performance, and I’m pleased to report that it’s remarkably consistent. Whether I connect directly with a USB cable or use the HyperSpeed Wireless dongle, the results are almost identical. In my tests, the wireless performance using the dongle was nearly indistinguishable from a wired connection.

That’s an impressive achievement on its own. Usually, disconnecting the cable means a drop in performance, but this PC doesn’t suffer that problem. In fact, the Wolverine V3 Pro 8K performs just as well whether you use a cable or connect wirelessly.

If you ignore the battery life – and it’s unfortunately not very good – this device doesn’t offer much improvement over previous versions. It wasn’t great on the Xbox, and adding more power hasn’t fixed the issue. While Synapse 4 offers some help, like automatically turning it off when not in use, I recommend using it plugged in. That’s what I do on both console and PC to avoid any battery concerns.

Like the Raiju V3 Pro I recently tested, I really love these TMR thumbsticks. I can’t quite explain *why* they feel better than Hall Effect sticks – I just know that they do. Or, at least, I think they do. There’s a definite difference you can feel when you start playing with them.

The Wolverine V3 Pro 8K PC maximizes performance with its joysticks, which precisely track your stick movements for greater accuracy. Its incredibly fast polling rate ensures that even the smallest actions in-game are registered instantly and faithfully.

Like other high-end controllers from Razer, this one includes extra thumbsticks you can easily change. You get one with a rounded top and another that’s the same shape as the originals, but taller.

Is there anything the Wolverine V3 Pro 8K PC doesn’t have?

Even though this controller has a lot of features, it’s missing a few things that some players might notice. For example, it doesn’t have vibration, which makes it less ideal for games like racing where that feature adds to the experience.

Despite being incredibly lightweight, the Wolverine V3 Pro 8K PC can feel a bit flimsy and even less substantial. While it uses the same plastic materials as the previous model, its light weight might give the impression that the build quality isn’t as good.

Even though this is Razer’s most powerful controller, it’s still missing a few features. Specifically, it doesn’t include the Rapid Trigger and Digital Trigger options that were added to the Wolverine V3 Pro and came standard with the Raiju V3 Pro.

Considering how incredibly fast the Wolverine V3 Pro 8K is, the lack of certain features isn’t a major drawback, though it’s still worth mentioning.

This controller doesn’t have Bluetooth. If you want a wireless connection, you’ll need to use the included USB dongle. While it might seem odd for a performance-focused controller to skip Bluetooth, the controller does come with a carrying case that has a dedicated space for the dongle, which helps prevent you from losing it when you’re traveling.

Should you buy the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro 8K PC?

This controller is unique – there really isn’t anything else on the market quite like it, making it difficult to compare to other options.

Just a heads-up: this controller is best for PC gaming only. If you plan to use it with other devices, it’s probably not the right choice. But if you’re strictly a PC gamer, it’s technically excellent and offers some extra perks.

Even though it’s still a bit pricey, this controller is actually less expensive than other high-end options like the Wolverine V3 Pro or Raiju V3 Pro, especially in the UK (though prices are similar in the U.S.). So, if you mainly play on PC, you can save money and get better performance.

For PC gamers, especially those who are serious or professional, I highly recommend this controller above all others currently available. It performs exceptionally well in all areas, even when used wirelessly, and eliminates the need to modify or tweak it with extra software.

You might not notice a visual difference, but this controller delivers noticeably better performance, as our testing proves. If you’re looking for the fastest PC controller available, look no further. If you don’t need wireless connectivity, you can save $80 and choose the Wolverine V3 Pro 8K PC Tournament Edition instead.

As a huge fan of both Call of Duty and Battlefield, I’m really excited about Black Ops 7 coming out and already enjoying Battlefield 6. I think this controller would be amazing for either game – it feels like it’s designed for both!
