The Ridge star Lauren Lyle reveals future for dark drama – will it return for season 2?

I’m so excited โ€“ all six episodes of this new thriller, The Ridge, are out now on BBC iPlayer! It stars Lauren Lyle as Mia, a doctor with a hidden struggle โ€“ she’s secretly battling an opioid addiction. The story kicks off when she flies all the way to New Zealand for her sister’s wedding, even though they haven’t been close for a while. It’s already gripping!

Upon arriving, she discovers her sister has tragically died in a fall from a cliff. Mia suspects foul play โ€“ that her sister was pushed โ€“ and immediately begins an investigation.

Because the show centers around a single, personal investigation, viewers have been wondering if it’s a standalone story or if Mia might return for another season. Now, Lyle has clarified the situation.

I’m a big fan of Lauren Lyle โ€“ she’s amazing as Karen Pirie! She recently talked about what made her want to be in this new drama, and she explained what really connected her to her character, Mia. It’s so interesting to hear what draws her to certain roles.

She explained that portraying a drug addict was unlike any role she’d taken on before. Specifically, playing an anesthetist secretly battling addiction โ€“ not a stereotypical, visibly struggling one, but someone desperately trying to hide it โ€“ was a unique challenge.

It’s enjoyable to play a character who’s flawed โ€“ someone who’s an anti-hero, can be quite cruel, and isn’t afraid to manipulate others or take advantage of situations. This is a contrast to Karen, who is generally portrayed as a genuinely good person. This character is different; she leans more into those darker traits.

Alongside the main cast, Jay Ryan (known for ‘It Chapter 2’), Dulcie Smart (‘Rematch’), Florence Hartigan (‘Madam’), Chloe Parker (‘Grafted’), David Van Horn (‘Heart Eyes’), Taqi Nazeer (‘Shetland’), Claire Dargo (‘Doctors’), and Cora Bissett (‘Annika’) also star in important roles.

You can now watch the complete series of The Ridge on BBC iPlayer. It will also be shown on BBC Two starting Thursday, October 23rd at 9pm.
