Following reports about a possible new The Mummy movie, cast members are starting to hint at their involvement. Last November, Deadline reported that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz were in talks to reprise their roles as Rick and Evie. While Universal Pictures hasn’t confirmed the story, Fraser playfully responded, saying he’s optimistic about sharing good news soon, acknowledging the films’ lasting popularity with fans – many of whom now share them with their own children. He expressed hope that a new movie will happen.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson seems interested in returning as the Scorpion King, the villain he played in the second film of the franchise, which later got its own series of movies. When asked about the possibility, he said he’s open to it, but emphasized that the franchise really belongs to Brendan Fraser, whom he greatly admires and supports. He joked that if they wanted the Scorpion King, he knew who to contact. He also admitted he’d seriously consider reprising the role, as it was a pivotal part of his career.
What Do We Know About a Potential Return to the Franchise?
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s recent comments align with his previous attempts to return as the Scorpion King. Back in 2020, he was involved in a project to reboot the Scorpion King franchise, but it didn’t move forward. At the time, reports from Deadline indicated that while Johnson couldn’t reprise the role himself due to scheduling conflicts, he was still helping to bring the story back. He explained, “The Scorpion King was my very first movie role, and I’m proud to update the story for a new audience. I owe my career to that film.”
Although official details are still limited, a fourth Mummy movie is increasingly likely—and many are hoping Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will return. Even if that doesn’t happen, it looks like fans might finally see the O’Connell family back in action on the big screen, which is something to be cautiously optimistic about.
