Exciting news for fans of The Rookie! The upcoming spinoff, The Rookie: North, has announced five new cast members who will be starring in leading roles. Joining the show are Froy Gutierrez (known for I Love LA), Janet Montgomery (New Amsterdam), Karen Fukuhara (The Boys), Mya Lowe (My Life with the Walter Boys), and newcomer Malik Watson.
The new series The Rookie: North, a spin-off of Alexi Hawley’s The Rookie starring Nathan Fillion, will feature Jay Ellis, age 44, as Alex Holland. Similar to Fillion’s character John Nolan, Holland is a newcomer to law enforcement who joins the Pierce County Police Department in Washington state after experiencing a traumatic home invasion. He’s the oldest rookie the department has ever had.
Joining Ellis in The Rookie: North will be Chris Sullivan as Sergeant Nix. Montgomery will play Charlotte Dru, Holland’s training officer. Lowe and Gutierrez will star as new recruits Elora Howe and Odell Chance, with Watson and Fukuhara playing their trainers, Mark Lewis and Leah Mizuno.
Filming for The Rookie: North is scheduled to begin in Vancouver this month. Unlike a typical spin-off, it won’t be introduced within the original The Rookie series – it’s being filmed as a separate pilot episode. While there’s no official release date yet, The Rookie: North is anticipated to premiere in the fall.
The Rookie: North is expected to premiere sometime in 2026.
