The Roses Ending: The Cast Break Down What They Think Happens After ‘Shocking’ Final Moments, And It’s Diabolical

SPOILERS are ahead! Read with caution!

In my opinion, throughout the years, I’ve enjoyed many charming romantic comedies. However, I must admit that I have my doubts whether The Roses can be classified as one, given its unexpected ending. Recently, I had the opportunity to chat with the supporting cast of this 2025 film release, and let me tell you, they shared some intriguing insights about what might unfold in the sequel.

Following the rollercoaster of Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman’s characters, Theo and Ivy Rose, going from deep love to bitter hatred, we were certain that one of them would eventually take the other’s life or something equally dramatic. But unexpectedly, they reconcile! However, this brief moment of harmony is disrupted when they inadvertently set fire to their stunning house and suffer the same fate.

In the course of our interview (which you can find in the video), the amusing Jamie Demetriou shared insights about Rory’s future plans once the Roses have perished, using the following words:

When it comes to their death, I suspect most of us might be a bit selfish. There may be tears at the funeral, but soon after, people might say things like “they were annoying” or “they were difficult.” However, considering my character doesn’t have much dialogue, perhaps just a few thoughtful words here and there throughout their remaining life would suffice. And yet, it’s likely that we’d still find ways to be catty about their passing.

In this rephrased version, I have tried to make it more conversational and easier to read: Zoë Chao portrays Demetriou’s Rory’s wife, and she felt that the couple wouldn’t grieve for long, as she put it herself.

I feel like Sally would be excited because one less architect to have as a rival.

As a movie buff, I must admit that “The Roses” certainly doesn’t shy away from showcasing the less than charming sides of its central characters – they can be downright mean! But what really caught my attention was how these two seemed to have cultivated friendships that appeared more superficial than genuine. And Kate McKinnon adds an extra layer to this black comedy with her portrayal.

In my perspective, my character, Amy, might direct her romantic or sexual energy towards someone other than Andy Samberg.

In the play “The Roses“, McKinnon’s character Amy is making efforts to express her desire to explore an open marriage with Samberg’s character Barry. This is apparent through her frequent flirting with Cumberbatch’s character Theo. However, with Theo’s demise, it seems she might shift her attention towards a different potential partner.

As a movie aficionado, I must admit that Sunita Mani, the talented actress portraying Ivy’s sous chef, exuded a hint of self-interest when delving into her character’s fate in the film’s conclusion.

It’s so abrupt and shocking, yet so appropriate. I do think that Jane would find the poetry in it.

Ncuti Gatwa mentioned during our chat about his departure from “Doctor Who”, he speculated that Jane might create an enormous mosaic, drawing inspiration from their shared fate. Without a doubt, this is one of the kindest replies.

Mani shared her thoughts on how actor Nico Teshola’s character, the restaurant manager, could handle the fictional death, and Teshola concurred with these insights. To put it simply, this is what Mani expressed:

“Mani speculated about how she believes Gatwa’s character might respond to a passing, and Gatwa agreed with her thoughts.

I feel like Jeffrey would take the business… the natural place, the throne [for] Jeffrey.

Everything appears to align perfectly after watching the film. Remarkably, none of them thought to arrange care for their surviving kids upon their deaths – typical of dark comedies!
