Orpheus is the offspring of Dream and the Muse Calliope, characters we were introduced to at the end of Season 1. The series now delves into the past, focusing on the day Orpheus married Eurydice (Ella Rumpf). “The Sandman” Season 2 will air its premiere on July 3rd, Thursday.
This season, The Sandman journeys to ancient Greece, where the timeless characters known as the Endless adopt historically authentic names for their celebration of a nephew’s wedding. The figure Orpheus, well-known from Greek mythology, is central to this narrative, with his marriage to Eurydice bearing resemblance to those legendary tales. Consequently, audiences may find themselves prepared for the tale to take a darker turn.
Netflix has unveiled the names of episodes for Season 2 of The Sandman, giving us a clue about which storyline this scene might belong to. While “The Song of Orpheus” could potentially mark the conclusion of this narrative, it might instead be the climax rather than the start. Conversely, “Brief Lives” shares its title with the Sandman comic book arc where Dream and Orpheus reconnect after a long time.
This upcoming scene for Season 2 of “The Sandman” aligns well with showrunner Allan Heinberg’s vision, who has emphasized that the series should primarily function as a family drama. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly last month, Heinberg revealed his intention to streamline the comic’s complex narrative by focusing on Dream and his relationships with his siblings and others.
