As of Saturday, January 17th, 2026, at 7am, it’s clear the rumored release of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake on January 16th didn’t happen. The original report was therefore inaccurate.
Okay, so remember how everyone was buzzing about a potential release date of January 16th, based on what a reliable insider said? We were all kinda hoping it would be a surprise drop, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen. It’s official – it wasn’t a shadow drop after all.
This doesn’t necessarily mean the initial information was incorrect; things might have shifted or been updated since then.
Regardless, the wait goes on for more information on this long-awaited PS2 remake.
Well-known gaming insider Tom Henderson reported that the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was originally planned to launch today, January 16th, 2026.
But, well, it’s not looking likely, is it?
It’s already late in the day, and we haven’t heard anything from Ubisoft, the French publisher. It seems like this rumor is likely losing steam.
Rumors suggested the game’s title might be shown at The Game Awards, but that didn’t happen. Over the last month, many false stories have circulated, and some of them even tricked us.
It’s understandable that Henderson might have thought the game would launch on January 16th, as that date may have been considered at some point. However, release plans can shift, and the publisher likely decided either the timing wasn’t right or the game needed further development.
We don’t expect to wait much longer for this game. It’s been a few years since it was first planned, and even though development restarted, we predict it will be released in early 2026.
Just not today, it seems.
