The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin delayed to March

Netmarble has pushed back the launch of its free-to-play action RPG, The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, from January 28th to March. The delay is due to a large amount of detailed feedback received during the closed beta test. The game will be released on PlayStation 5, PC (through Steam), iOS, and Android.

Here is the full note from Netmarble on the delay:

I was so excited when a bunch of our favorite Star Guardians showed up in the closed beta test for the game in early November! It was amazing getting to play with them in Britannia.

Okay, so the closed beta test didn’t last super long, but honestly, the amount of feedback we got was amazing – way more detailed than we expected! But the best part? The survey results showed that most of you Star Guardians who tried it out are actually planning to keep playing when the game officially launches, and that seriously means the world to us. We’re so grateful!

I’ve been reading all your feedback, and I’m really happy to hear so many of you are enjoying the main parts of the game – things like how it looks, the story, and especially the combat! It’s awesome to know you’re having a good time with those elements.

We were very happy to hear your positive feedback! You especially enjoyed how well the game captured the feel of the original anime, the freedom of exploring the open world, the way the story pulled you into the world of Britannia, and the exciting tag-team combat system – and that all of this was better than you expected.

We received a lot of helpful feedback, not just positive comments, from players who want to see the game get even better. In addition to what you told us through surveys and the community, we’ve also been watching people play the game at demo events to see where they’re having trouble and identify areas for improvement.

We carefully looked at your feedback, paying close attention to areas where you struggled during fights or while exploring, and where the controls felt unresponsive. We then compared this to our own gameplay observations and conducted a thorough internal review based on those shared pain points.

Based on the feedback from the CBT, we’ve identified and summarized the most common areas where improvements are needed:

  • Controls – Feedback that character handling felt somewhat unresponsive, and that movement and targeting were inconvenient.
  • Combat System – Feedback that the difficulty felt excessive, and that combat tempo and skill response speed were too slow.
  • User Interface / User Experience – Feedback that the menu structure was complex, making it difficult to find desired features intuitively.

After hearing feedback from many Star Guardian players, we concentrated our efforts on the issues mentioned and explored ways to make things better.

We found that while some issues were easy to fix with just a few number changes, many others needed a much bigger overhaul. These deeper problems required us to rethink the game’s fundamental design and make improvements to its core systems.

Because of this, our developers carefully weighed sticking to the original release date versus taking the time to add features and improvements that would make the game better.

Ultimately, we realized that fixing the core problems was our top priority. To deliver the experience our players deserve, we’ve decided to move the official launch date to March.

We’re very sorry we couldn’t meet with you as planned in January. We’ll use the next two months to prepare and make sure we can deliver an even better experience for you.

I just checked out “Developer Notes #5” on the game’s website, and it goes into a lot more detail about all the cool changes Netmarble is planning. It’s worth a read if you want the full picture!
