The producer currently in charge of The Simpsons has hinted that a remastered version of the classic video game The Simpsons: Hit & Run might be coming. While many Simpsons games have been released over the years, Hit & Run is widely considered the best. Currently, the game is only playable on older consoles like PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube, making it hard to play today. However, there’s a possibility it could be updated for modern gaming systems, though plans aren’t confirmed yet.
Matt Selman, showrunner and executive producer of The Simpsons, has acknowledged the strong fan demand for a remastered version of the video game Hit & Run. Selman, who also contributed as a writer to the game, expressed surprise at its continued popularity. While he didn’t confirm any plans for a remaster or remake, he also didn’t dismiss the idea.
Selman described Hit & Run as a fascinating game, noting his involvement in its creation decades ago. “I worked on Hit & Run when I was in my twenties,” he said, “and I never imagined it would become such a beloved cult classic.”
He emphasized that anything is possible, stating, “You never know what might happen.” He explained that because fans clearly enjoy Hit & Run and have expressed their desire for more, they shouldn’t rule out a return. He reiterated, “If people want something, you can’t completely dismiss the idea.”
A Hit & Run Remaster Would Be Complicated

So, I was reading that the people making The Simpsons are open to the idea of bringing back Hit & Run, which is awesome! But apparently, the licensing situation is a total mess. The studio that actually made the game, Radical Entertainment, closed down way back in 2012. It all started when their publisher, Vivendi, got bought by Activision in 2008. Now, Activision is part of Microsoft, and The Simpsons is owned by Disney… which means figuring out who even owns the rights to Hit & Run is super complicated. That’s probably why we haven’t seen a revival yet, honestly. It’s a real tangled web!
It’s been nearly twenty years since a major Simpsons game was released. The last console game, appropriately named The Simpsons Game, came out in 2007 and was fairly successful. However, games based on the show generally seem to be a thing of the past, making a revival of Hit & Run unlikely.
