Kerry Washington joined the cast of *The Simpsons* in Season 33 as Ms. Peyton, who became Bart’s new fourth grade teacher after replacing Edna Krabappel. Initially, it seemed Bart and Ms. Peyton had resolved a previous summer encounter in their first episode together. However, a recent episode in Season 37 revealed that Bart still has a strong crush on her.

In the latest episode of *The Simpsons*, Superintendent Chalmers takes over Springfield Elementary and holds a school assembly. During the assembly, Bart points out the irony of Chalmers banning phones while constantly using his own, and Ms. Peyton praises Bart for using the word “ironic” correctly. Flustered, Bart blurts out “Thank you, I love you” to Peyton, but she only catches part of it. Bart realizes he’s confessed his feelings and quickly tries to hide them again.
This small moment hints at a recurring dynamic between Bart and Ms. Peyton throughout the series. Ms. Peyton first appeared in Season 33’s “My Octopus and a Teacher” and quickly became a regular character after joining Springfield Elementary as the new fourth grade teacher. It was revealed that Bart had a crush on her, stemming from when she rescued him from drowning the previous summer, and those feelings resurfaced when she became his teacher. Though Bart seemed to move past them initially, the underlying attraction remains.
What Does This Mean for Bart’s Future?
The relationship between Bart and his new teacher is a fresh direction for the show, a significant change from his past interactions with Mrs. Krabappel. This change offers Bart a more promising outlook, as he’s motivated to do better in school to make a good impression. Ms. Peyton recognized his effort and decided to stay and continue supporting him and the entire class.
In recent seasons, *The Simpsons* has introduced some new characters who have quickly become part of the show’s familiar group. While this is the only major change to the show’s core cast so far, with Season 40 approaching, we can expect even more new faces and developments in the future.
