The latest episode of The Simpsons gave baby Maggie a new voice, and it’s unexpectedly provided by a prominent actor who works with DC Studios. Currently in its 37th season, The Simpsons is confirmed to continue airing on FOX for at least three more seasons. Throughout the show’s run, Maggie has occasionally spoken, and each time a different voice actor has been chosen – sometimes surprisingly – to enhance the comedic effect.
This is particularly noticeable with The Simpsons‘ yearly “Treehouse of Horror” episodes. Previous segments have featured Maggie Simpson voiced by famous actors like James Earl Jones, Kevin Michael Richardson, Hank Azaria, and Harry Shearer. However, this year’s special went all out, casting the acclaimed Viola Davis (known for The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and upcoming DC projects) as the voice of Maggie.
The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror XXXVI Gives Maggie a New Voice

Okay, so the latest Treehouse of Horror segment, “Plastic World,” was seriously wild! It starts with a future where the Earth is totally covered in plastic, and Bart and Lisa are among the last people left. Then, you find out Homer and Marge have been turned into these creepy plastic monsters who want to turn everyone into plastic! It gets really bizarre when they get ripped apart and thrown into a Squishee machine… and then they come out as baby Maggie! It was a totally unexpected twist and a really fun way to end the episode.
Maggie embodies a new vision of humanity in this futuristic, artificial world. The segment concludes by revealing that Maggie was the voice we’ve been hearing all along. Davis explains that Maggie represents the entirety of a future race, a world made of plastic and filled with many other Maggies who have transformed Earth into a perfect society. It’s a surprising and amusing twist, and it’s funny to see Maggie ultimately succeed once again.
Is Maggie Going to Talk in The Simpsons?
Maggie Simpson has spoken on numerous occasions both outside the show’s regular story arc and within the official timeline. These instances are always tied to important plot points and feature prominent guest stars. It started with Carol Kane in “Bart vs. Thanksgiving,” and has continued with appearances by Elizabeth Taylor, Jodie Foster, and most recently, Amy Sedaris in Season 36. This has led to speculation about whether Maggie will speak again in future episodes.
It doesn’t seem like Maggie Simpson will be talking in complete sentences anytime soon. The show finds it more amusing to bring in new celebrity guests instead. While The Simpsons has been changing things up lately, a major shift like aging Maggie up or giving her a voice probably won’t happen until a significant event, like a future movie.
