Currently in its thirty-seventh season, The Simpsons is expected to continue for several more, potentially reaching season forty. The show has expanded beyond television, creating stories in video games, comics, and other formats. Matt Selman, who has been with the series since 1997—starting as a writer and eventually becoming showrunner—recently discussed a popular Simpsons project and its potential for a comeback.
Released in 2003 for the Nintendo Gamecube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox, The Simpsons: Hit & Run is widely considered the best game in the Simpsons series by fans. Writer Matt Selman, who contributed to the game, recently spoke to People magazine about it. While he didn’t confirm any plans, Selman suggested a return isn’t impossible. He stated, “Nothing is set in stone, but people love Hit & Run and want more of it, so never say never.”
Will Simpsons Return to Hit & Run?

Selman shared stories about developing the game and expressed his surprise at how The Simpsons: Hit & Run remains the most popular game in the franchise. He recalled working on the game in his twenties, never imagining it would become a beloved classic. Considering the many Simpsons games made over the years, he highlighted Hit & Run as a standout title. He remembered a specific meeting where the team wanted to emulate Grand Theft Auto III by allowing players to freely enter and exit vehicles, but the developers were initially resistant to the idea. It took a lot of convincing, but they ultimately succeeded in implementing the feature, which Selman believes is a key part of the game’s appeal.
Although it’s unclear if a sequel to The Simpsons: Hit & Run will ever be made, there’s positive news regarding a remake. Radical Games, the studio behind the original game, recently launched a new website. They showcased their previous work on Hit & Run on the site, suggesting they haven’t forgotten about their time in Springfield.
