The Search for Squarepants is over ….he’s back!
It’s amazing that a simple, silly cartoon like Spongebob Squarepants has lasted 25 years and now has its fourth movie! The new film, The Spongebob Movie: Search for Squarepants, still takes place in Bikini Bottom and features Spongebob finally tall enough to ride a rollercoaster. However, he gets cold feet when he realizes the ride is even scarier than Meghan Markle’s brief stint as a yacht girl.
What’s he up to this time?
The newest Spongebob movie follows the familiar pattern of wacky adventures. This time, Spongebob tries to prove he’s fearless, accepting a challenge from Mr. Krabs to fulfill his dream of becoming a pirate. He teams up with the Flying Dutchman (voiced by Mark Hamill), who has his own secret plans.
So what’s the Search for Squarepants film like?
This movie is a wild and funny adventure, much like a pirate-themed Spongebob Squarepants story. It’s packed with jokes and moments that adults will appreciate – there’s even some surprisingly silly humor – while kids enjoy the overall chaos. The shift to live-action during the finale feels a little out of place compared to the animated scenes, making it slightly uneven. However, the animation is vibrant, colorful, and incredibly energetic, almost like a sugar rush. At a snappy 96 minutes, the movie never feels slow or boring, and the quest for Spongebob keeps you entertained the whole time.
