The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct Announced for November 12

Nintendo will be holding a presentation on November 12th at 6am Pacific Time / 9am Eastern Time / 11pm Japan Standard Time. This Direct will focus solely on the upcoming sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and will not include any announcements about video games.

Nintendo announced that they’ll be streaming a Nintendo Direct presentation on Wednesday, November 12th, at 6am Pacific Time. The main event will be the first official trailer for The Super Mario Movie. They clarified that this presentation will focus solely on the movie and won’t include any news about upcoming games.

In September, the company officially announced The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and confirmed it will be released in theaters on April 3, 2026. A trailer revealing the official title is available to watch. Nintendo and Universal Pictures are jointly funding the movie, with Universal Pictures handling its distribution.

Aaron Horwath and Michael Jelenic, who directed The Super Mario Bros. Movie, are back to direct The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Matthew Fogel is writing the screenplay, and Bryan Tyler will once again compose the music.

Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson will all return as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, Toad, and Kamek in the new film. The movie will also introduce new characters inspired by the popular Super Mario Galaxy games, originally released on the Nintendo Wii.

Although details about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are still limited, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto recently discussed the film in an interview. He explained that the upcoming movie will be made by many of the same people who worked on The Super Mario Bros. Movie, highlighting a continued collaboration.

So, after working on The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it’s really cool to see how much everyone came together to make it happen. As a producer, I focused on keeping things running smoothly with the team. And honestly, a lot of the people involved have already said they’d be up for working on another project with us, which I think is a pretty good sign we did something right!

The next movie takes place in space, as the title suggests, and that’s all I can reveal right now. We’re wrapping up production, and I’m really excited about how it’s turning out. I always work on a project until I enjoy it, and I’m feeling very good about this one (laughs).

Recently, several Nintendo leaders – including Shigeru Miyamoto, Takashi Tezuka, Koji Kondo, and Toshihiko Nakago – have talked about expanding Nintendo’s popular franchises beyond video games. During celebrations for Mario’s 40th anniversary, they also discussed the future of the Mario franchise and the possibility of the character remaining popular for another 60 years, potentially even at his 100th anniversary.
