Released in 2023, The Super Mario Bros. Movie brought popular Nintendo characters to life on the big screen. Featuring Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Peach, the Toads, and the Kongs, the film heavily hinted at plans for a larger series of Nintendo-based movies. It even included a spooky scene inspired by the Luigi’s Mansion game. The movie ended with a post-credit scene that suggested Yoshi will appear in a future installment.
Three years after the initial announcement, The Super Mario Bros. Movie successfully gave Donkey Kong his long-awaited cinematic introduction and, importantly, hinted at what’s coming next. Like the first film, it includes post-credit scenes that reveal some of the plot for the next movie in the series, as well as a potential spinoff. Be warned: spoilers for The Super Mario Bros. Movie follow.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s First Credit Scene Sets up A Star Fox Movie

As a huge animation fan, I was thrilled by the post-credits scene in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie! It finally hinted at the Star Fox spin-off we’ve all been hoping for. They cleverly introduced Fox McCloud, establishing that his universe is separate from Mario’s. Apparently, his ship’s warp drive broke, leaving him stuck here. The scene was so well done – Toad helped him get back on his feet, and the Princess actually fixed his drive! It was a beautiful moment watching Fox take off from a landing strip near the prison, eventually becoming just a tiny speck of light in the night sky. It definitely left me wanting more!
The story doesn’t end there. The scene shifts inside the prison, where Bowser – now a skeletal Dry Bowser – and his son, Bowser Jr., are planning their escape. Bowser Jr. is digging a tunnel when a guard begins walking down the hall, looking threatening. It’s a mystery who it is – could it be Wario, or another Mario enemy? But the reveal is unexpected: it’s Lumalee, the blue, pessimistic Luma from the first movie, who has somehow turned the tables on Bowser.
The Super Mario Galaxy’s Final Credit Scene Brings Daisy to the Series

Similar to the first movie, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie includes a final scene after the credits. This scene returns to the Gateway Galaxy, an important location in the film, where Ukiki, the little monkey thief, reappears and steals something new. As he tries to escape with his loot, someone stops him. It’s then revealed to be Princess Daisy, who receives thanks from Whittle for her help.
As a huge fan, I was really excited to see Princess Daisy hinted at in The Super Mario Bros. Movie! Luigi playfully suggests to Mario that Peach might have a friend for him, which is a clever nod to Daisy’s role in the games. What’s interesting is that she doesn’t actually say anything during her quick appearance – it seems the filmmakers are keeping the possibility open for casting a voice actress later. Even more surprisingly, they’ve made Rosalina and Peach sisters, which was a total shocker! Now, it makes you wonder if they might do the same thing with Daisy… honestly, who could have predicted this movie would pull a Star Wars and suddenly make these two female characters related? It’s definitely a wild move!
The big questions surrounding the third Super Mario Movie are its title and the game it will be based on. Since the sequel seems to be leaning towards the style of Super Mario Galaxy, the next movie will likely adapt an equally expansive game, such as Super Mario Odyssey or Super Mario Wonder. We can expect the third film to be released within the next two or three years, so fans should prepare for more Mario adventures!
