I’m so excited for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie! After how amazing the first movie did – earning over a billion dollars – everyone’s really hoping this one will be just as good, if not better. We already knew some big new characters were coming, and they’ve hinted at some really cool, obscure characters from Mario’s history making an appearance. Lately, there’s been a lot of talk online about a possible crossover, with many of us thinking we might see Fox McCloud from the Star Fox games. Considering the sequel seems to be taking things to space, it felt like a good possibility, and now it’s official – Fox is really going to be in the movie!
A short new trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has dropped, and it’s packed with surprises! The ten-second video offers a close-up look at many of the characters who will be in the film, including some lesser-known faces. Eagle-eyed viewers also spotted a fun crossover: Nintendo’s R.O.B. and the Pikmin will both make appearances!
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Confirms Nintendo Crossover With Franchise No One Expected

Okay, so The Super Mario Bros. Movie has pretty much confirmed we’re getting a bigger Nintendo crossover on the big screen – it’s just not the exact one everyone was hoping for, at least not right away. I noticed R.O.B. and the Pikmin showed up in the trailer, which is awesome, but it doesn’t mean they’ll have huge roles. Those quick shots felt similar to how they included a bunch of Mario villains just as background characters, so I’m guessing that’s probably how these guys will be used too.

The appearance of R.O.B. and the Pikmin in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has many Nintendo fans wondering if this is the start of a larger animated universe. Could we eventually see a Super Smash Bros. movie? R.O.B., originally a Nintendo Entertainment System accessory in 1985, has become a well-known Nintendo character, appearing in several Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart DS games. The Pikmin, small plant-like creatures featured in their own games, fit well with the galactic setting of the movie, but they also have a presence in the Super Smash Bros. series, further fueling speculation about a potential shared universe.
Although Nintendo hasn’t officially announced anything, fans are already speculating about what movie franchise might come next after The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. With the huge success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and the announcement of a live-action The Legend of Zelda film, many believe a Super Smash Bros. movie is now a real possibility. Fans have been wanting to see more of their favorite Nintendo characters on the big screen for a long time, and this recent momentum has fueled those hopes.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie debuts on April 1st.
