Following the huge success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a sequel from Illumination and Nintendo was always likely. It’s now officially titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is great news for fans of the popular Nintendo games. The timing is perfect, as the Super Mario Galaxy games have recently been re-released on the new Switch 2, boosting excitement for the franchise. That excitement has reached a new high with the premiere of the first trailer for Mario’s next movie, giving fans a thrilling preview of his space adventure.
Just as fans expected, the new trailer finally reveals Rosalina, the guardian of the Lumas, and confirms Brie Larson will be voicing her. A quick appearance of a Luma in the first movie hinted at her arrival, and now she’s set to play a major role. The trailer shows Mario (voiced by Chris Pratt) and his friends leaving the Mushroom Kingdom for a cosmic adventure, traveling to different planets to stop Bowser (voiced by Jack Black) from carrying out a new, galaxy-sized plan.
Get ready to explore the cosmos! The first trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has arrived, and the film hits theaters in April 2026.

The trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie finally showed fans what they’d been waiting for: Bowser Jr.! After appearing in some early product releases, Bowser’s playful son will be a key villain in the movie, and actor Benny Sadfie will provide his voice.
It’s an Exciting Moment to Be a Nintendo Fan

Nintendo is actively working to expand its most popular games, like Super Mario, into movies and other entertainment. The first Super Mario movie cleverly included characters from Donkey Kong (voiced by Seth Rogen), hinting at a possible standalone Donkey Kong film from Illumination. This idea gained traction thanks to the positive reception of the Donkey Kong Bananza game, which has been a hit on the Switch 2.
Nintendo isn’t just focused on animated content; they’re seriously expanding into live-action movies. They’re making a big-budget film based on The Legend of Zelda, and have tapped Wes Ball, the director of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, to direct. The screenplay is by Derek Connolly, who also wrote Pokémon Detective Pikachu. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Link, and Bo Bragason is cast as Princess Zelda. This movie, which is expected to be the first in a series of three, shows Nintendo is investing heavily in bringing its popular characters to life across different types of entertainment.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 3, 2026.
