The Team Behind One of the Greatest Power Rangers Events Ever Reveals New DC Project

DC’s big event, DC K.O., is wrapping up, and the company is starting to reveal what’s next. While the event will bring significant changes to some existing comic books, it will also make room for new titles as DC enters its ‘All In’ era. One of the most exciting new books planned will be created by the team behind a highly-regarded Power Rangers storyline.

DC Comics made some exciting announcements at ComicsPro, including the return of the Teen Titans! The team hasn’t had its own regular series since 2022’s Teen Titans Academy, but they’re back for a new chapter, this time with Red Hood joining the lineup. Even more exciting is that the series will be written by Kyle Higgins and illustrated by Daniele Di Nicuolo – the creative team behind the acclaimed Power Rangers event, Shattered Grid.

The New Teen Titans Era Begins With Red Hood

The upcoming Teen Titans series is part of DC’s Next Level initiative, building on the foundation laid by the earlier DC All In program. A key theme of Teen Titans has always been passing the torch to a new generation of heroes, and this new series reflects that with the inclusion of Red Hood, who embodies that legacy and mentorship.

Red Hood, formerly known as Robin (Jason Todd), deeply understands the weight of legacy and the difficulties of living up to the expectations set by previous heroes. Although he hasn’t always sought out leadership roles, despite having led teams before, he’ll be forced to step up again when he discovers a hidden network of missing teenagers with superpowers.

This brings Red Hood to a point where he’s forced to team up with a new wave of tech-savvy and powerful young heroes. Together, they’ll search for the missing teenagers and uncover a deception that’s tearing their world apart. DC has just given fans a first glimpse of this new team Jason will be leading.

As a huge movie fan, I’m really digging the character designs Nicuolo came up with – each one feels really unique and memorable. We don’t know what powers they’ll have yet, but just looking at them, they’re already visually striking. Having followed Red Hood’s previous teams and loved their chemistry, I think this new one has a ton of potential, especially with the creative team leading the charge.

Why Shattered Grid Was One of the Best Power Rangers Events of All Time

As a huge fan of great storytelling, I’m incredibly excited about the Teen Titans project, especially knowing the team behind it also created Shattered Grid. That Power Rangers event was seriously one of the best ever! The writer, Higgins, was brilliant at taking a shocking moment – a major character death – and turning it into this massive, epic story that pulled in Rangers from every generation. And the way he did it felt so natural and connected – it wasn’t just a random crossover, it worked.

The storyline ‘Shattered Grid’ featured an evil version of Tommy Oliver from another universe as the main villain, with the entire plot revolving around his desire to control the Morphin Grid. The resulting conflicts were massive and felt incredibly important. What’s remarkable is that the writer, Higgins, achieved this grand scale without losing sight of the established relationships and team dynamics that fans loved. In fact, he strengthened those bonds while also introducing a wealth of interesting characters from the Power Rangers’ 30+ year history.

What excites me most about the new Teen Titans project is how they’re handling the characters. It’s not just about introducing a fresh team, but also about bringing someone with a lot of history – and baggage – into the mix. I think the conversations that come from blending these new heroes with someone who’s been through so much as a hero have incredible potential, and that’s what I’m really looking forward to seeing.

Plus, the New Titans comic will be happening at the same time as Teen Titans. The older, more experienced Titans and other heroes will be stepping up to lead, and it’s likely these two teams will eventually interact with each other.

Nicuolo’s character designs are striking and memorable, offering subtle clues about the personalities hidden beneath the masks. He’s also a master of writing engaging conversations that reveal character depth without sacrificing visual appeal. His action scenes, particularly in Shattered Grid, demonstrate his ability to orchestrate large-scale chaos with a distinctive and stylish touch.

We expect to hear more details about the series shortly, but Teen Titans comics are scheduled to be released later this year.
