Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia

Aunt Lydia is a powerful figure in the Republic of Gilead, in charge of training and controlling young women. In the novel The Testaments, her character develops as she grapples with her own beliefs and the limits of her power within the oppressive system. She’s a key player whose decisions significantly affect the lives of the girls she oversees.

As a big fan of the show, I’ve been fascinated watching Aunt Lydia. She’s still running things at the school for future wives, but you can really see her control slipping a little, and it’s clear she’s battling a lot internally. A lot of the drama now revolves around her interactions with the younger girls, like Agnes and Daisy, and it’s a really interesting situation – she has a lot of power, but it feels like it could be taken away from her at any moment. It’s a precarious position, and I’m eager to see how it all plays out.

You probably recognize Ann Dowd from her memorable role in The Handmaid’s Tale. She’s also appeared in the films Compliance and the critically acclaimed horror movie, Hereditary.

Chase Infiniti as Agnes

In Margaret Atwood’s The Testaments, Agnes is a dedicated and religious student at Aunt Lydia’s school. As she grows up, she starts to doubt the society she lives in and develops a close relationship with Daisy. This connection inspires her to question authority and ultimately leads to acts of defiance and a desire for change.

Chase Infiniti first appeared in the TV series Presumed Innocent before gaining recognition for her role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s film, One Battle After Another.

Lucy Halliday as Daisy

I’m really invested in Daisy’s story. She’s not from Gilead originally, she actually became one of them, and it’s been a huge adjustment for her. Walking into Aunt Lydia’s school was a total shock, and she’s had to learn everything fast just to get by. What’s fascinating is how she’s become friends with Agnes, and their relationship is making both of them question what freedom really means, who they are, and how they can possibly fight back against everything.

I’m so excited about Lucy Halliday! She’s a really promising new actor, and I first noticed her in ‘Blue Jean’. I’m already looking forward to seeing what she does next – I hear she’s going to be in ‘California Schemin” soon!

Rowan Blanchard as Shunammite

I’ve always been fascinated by Shunammite. She seems to have it all – a comfortable life as a teenager from one of the most respected families in Gilead. Everyone looks up to her, and she definitely carries herself with a certain power. But even with all that privilege, it’s clear she’s not exempt from the usual pressures young women face. I’m really curious to see how she handles everything that’s happening at school, especially with Agnes and Daisy shaking things up – I think it’s going to test her in ways she doesn’t expect.

You might recognize Rowan Blanchard from movies like Spy Kids: All the Time in the World, A Wrinkle in Time, Crush, and Snowpiercer.

Mattea Conforti as Becka

Becka is a girl from a modest background attending school with the wealthy daughters of Gilead’s leaders. As she grows up, she starts to wonder if the life planned for her is truly what she wants. Her story follows her search for who she is and what she believes, as she struggles to balance her own dreams with what’s expected of her in Gilead.

You might recognize Mattea Conforti from her roles in films like Frozen 2 and The Many Saints of Newark, and the TV series NOS4A2.

Mabel Li as Aunt Vidala

Aunt Vidala is a harsh and uncompromising figure who is next in line to lead the women of Gilead. She rigorously enforces the laws and customs of this society. As dissatisfaction rises among the students she oversees, her power and the ways she uses it are challenged.

You might recognize Mabel Li from her roles in the TV series New Gold Mountain and Bay of Fires.

Amy Seimetz as Paula

Paula recently married a Commander, which has given her a higher social standing. However, she’s struggling to adjust to life with her step-daughter, and her efforts to navigate this new family dynamic are creating tension within the powerful circles of Gilead.

You might recognize Amy Seimetz from her roles in popular shows like The Killing, Stranger Things, and Sweet Tooth.

Brad Alexander as Garth

Garth is a young leader tasked with protecting a group of girls, and he unexpectedly finds himself becoming entangled in their personal lives.

Where you’ve seen Brad Alexander before: Alexander has featured in You and Linley.

Zarrin Darnell-Martin as Aunt Gabbana

Aunt Gabbana strongly believes in the principles of Gilead and works closely with Aunt Vidala. She’s known for being a severe and inflexible teacher.

You might recognize Zarrin Darnell-Martin from her roles in the TV shows Ginny & Georgia and The Good Doctor.

Eva Foote as Aunt Estee

Aunt Estee is the youngest teacher at the school, and the students absolutely adore her! She’s known for being kind and energetic, and the girls often turn to her for comfort and support.

You might recognize Eva Foote from her roles in the series Murdoch Mysteries and the documentary Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy.

Isolde Ardies as Hulda

Hulda is a sweet and innocent young woman who is eagerly looking forward to growing up. People are drawn to her honest way of seeing the world and her positive attitude, and she’s made many close friends because of it.

You might recognize Isolde Ardies from her roles in the TV series Wayward alongside Toni Collette, and in Ruby and the Well.

Shechinah Mpumlwana as Jehosheba

Jehosheba is a driven student from a well-known family who is determined to marry someone of high social standing. This ambition creates conflict and excitement at school.

You might recognize Shechinah Mpumlwana from her roles in several animated shows for children. She’s also appeared on CBBC’s Creeped Out and in the docudrama The Fire Inside, even though she’s still early in her career.

Birva Pandya as Miriam

Miriam is a young woman facing the pressures of finding a husband, as marriage season approaches.

You might recognize Birva Pandya from her roles in TV shows like Northern Rescue, The Magic School Bus Rides Again, and The Institute.

Kira Guloien as Rosa

Rosa is a warm and devoted caregiver, essentially a mother figure to Agnes. She brings a much-needed sense of love and comfort to a family that otherwise feels distant and unwelcoming.

You might recognize Kira Guloien from her roles in the TV series 56 Days and the critically acclaimed film Women Talking, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture.

The Testaments is on Disney+ from Wednesday 8 April 2026.
