Netflix might not be the first place you think of for monster movies, but it actually has a surprisingly good and growing collection. You can find everything from giant monster battles to original films, offering plenty of thrilling options. Right now, there are even two movies on Netflix that could easily be considered among the best monster blockbusters of the last ten years.
The critically acclaimed film *Godzilla Minus One* (2023) is now available to stream on Netflix, in both its original color version and a special black-and-white edition called “Minus Color.” Released in theaters a couple of years ago, the movie quickly became considered one of the greatest *Godzilla* films ever made, with many fans connecting to its powerful story and emotional depth.
Despite not getting as much attention as other recent films, *Troll* (2022) is a huge success for Netflix – it’s actually their most-watched original film that isn’t in English. The movie, directed by Roar Uthaug, takes Norwegian folklore about trolls and creates a monster movie similar to *King Kong*. While it didn’t cost as much to make as typical big-budget blockbusters, it feels impressively large in scope and has a nostalgic vibe, reminiscent of popular movies from the 1990s. *Troll* successfully captures the spirit of a classic blockbuster.
Another Troll Is Coming Very Soon
Fans of monster movies have reason to celebrate, as both *Godzilla Minus One* and *Troll* are getting sequels. However, *Troll 2* will arrive on Netflix later this year, while production on the *Godzilla Minus One* sequel only recently began.
The sequel to *Troll* will bring back the original director and stars – Ine Marie Wilmann, Kim Falck, and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen. This new film is much larger in scale than the first, becoming the most expensive movie ever made in the Nordic countries. It will feature another giant troll awakening, tied to an old legend. Like recent Hollywood blockbusters such as *Godzilla* and *Kong*, *Troll 2* seems to involve a battle between massive monsters.
The new *Troll* movie seems to be exploring the history and folklore behind Christmas, hinted at by the music in the *Troll 2* trailer. However, because much of this lore comes from Nordic traditions, it won’t be a typical American-style Christmas film.
The cult classic film, *Troll 2*, will be available to stream on Netflix worldwide starting December 1st. If you’re not familiar with it, now’s the perfect time to check it out!
