The Unholy Trinity: Box Office Bomb Turns Streaming Sensation

Despite failing to attract audiences in cinemas, the Western film The Unholy Trinity is now finding success as a streaming hit. Although it featured well-known actors Pierce Brosnan and Samuel L. Jackson, the movie earned just $1 million in theaters when it came out in June 2025 and was considered a box office failure.

I was so thrilled to see that The Unholy Trinity is doing incredibly well on Hulu! As of today, October 27th, it’s actually number two on the Top 10 movies list in the US, and it’s held that spot for the last couple of days. It’s just behind the remake of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, but it’s beating out a ton of other popular films like Anyone But You, Twilight, 40 Acres, and even all the Twilight Saga movies – New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn – Part 2 – plus Scream and Hotel Transylvania! It’s amazing to see it doing so well.

Richard Gray directs The Unholy Trinity, a story written by Lee Zachariah. The film centers on a young man who travels to a Montana town in the 1870s to take back what’s rightfully his. He quickly finds himself caught in the middle of a conflict between the local Sheriff (Pierce Brosnan), who’s trying to maintain order, and a mysterious stranger (Samuel L. Jackson) determined to cause chaos.

The film stars Pierce Brosnan and Samuel L. Jackson, along with Brandon Lessard, Ethan Peck, Q’orianka Kilcher, Tim Daly (who has been nominated for an Emmy for his work on The Sopranos), Veronica Ferres, David Arquette, Gianni Capaldi, and Katrina Bowden.

The Western film debuted at the Zurich Film Festival in October 2024 and received mixed reactions, earning a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In a review for ScreenRant, Nick Bythrow noted that while Samuel L. Jackson’s performance was a highlight, the film itself, titled The Unholy Trinity, was fairly standard for the Western genre. He praised Jackson and Pierce Brosnan’s acting but found the story unoriginal.

Even though audiences gave The Unholy Trinity a reasonably good rating of 66%, it didn’t do well in theaters, earning just $1 million. While the film likely wouldn’t have succeeded in cinemas given the current movie market, its two well-known stars and classic Western theme make it a strong contender for success on streaming platforms.
