A new survival horror game is currently being made, and it’s designed to feel like the classic games from the late 90s and early 2000s – the golden age of the genre. Games like Alone in the Dark and Resident Evil were known for their fixed camera angles, creepy environments, unsettling music, and sudden scares. While the genre has changed a lot since then, those original games were truly terrifying, and this new title aims to recreate that same feeling of fear.
On March 20, 2026, Philippe JoshProd announced on X (formerly Twitter) that PixelHeart is creating a new 3D survival horror game for the Sega Dreamcast. This is surprising, considering the Dreamcast hasn’t been updated for over 25 years. Despite this, developers Philippe Nguyen, Sami Chlagou, and Michaël Rabaioli are moving forward with a game they call “A love letter to the classics.” Currently, details are limited to fixed camera angles, a dark and unsettling atmosphere, and a tagline: “The darkness is coming.”
The Darkness Is Coming … To Dreamcast

Many people are confused about what all this means, and that’s understandable. We only have the information shared on X, so the image shown isn’t connected to this news. Here’s what we do know: PixelHeart, founded in 2018, is a company that publishes physical games for older consoles. Making a new game for the Dreamcast fits perfectly with their expertise. They’ve previously created games for the Dreamcast, as well as systems like the Game Boy and Neo Geo, and they’ve also developed games for the Nintendo Switch.
Hello Dreamcast fans! We’re excited to announce we’ve begun development on a new 3D survival horror game, and it’s coming exclusively to Dreamcast! We’re aiming for a classic feel with fixed camera angles and a truly dark, immersive atmosphere. Keep an eye out for more updates – something spooky is on its way! #Dreamcast #SurvivalHorror #RetroGaming

PixelHeart handles publishing, and JoshProd, founded by Nguyen, focuses on game development. JoshProd primarily creates new games for classic systems like the Neo Geo, Sega Genesis, and Dreamcast, which are then usually published by PixelHeart. More recently, they released Tanuki Justice for the Nintendo Switch. This action-packed game is designed in the style of 1990s run-and-gun titles, featuring side-scrolling levels filled with enemies and challenging boss battles.
The Sega Dreamcast was home to many great survival horror games like Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, Evil Dead: Hail to the King, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Dino Crisis, Resident Evil Code: Veronica, and Resident Evil 2. Whatever the team led by Nguyen creates, it will likely feel similar to those classic titles. For almost ten years, they’ve been dedicated to recreating the look and feel of older games and consoles, carefully adding new content that respects the original games while also appealing to modern gamers with updated features.
