The Transformers comic book saga is undergoing a shake-up with some high-profile creators joining forces. The partnership between Hasbro, Skybound, and Image Comics has produced the two-time Eisner Award-winning Transformers series. This comic is set in Skybound’s Energon Universe, which includes other titles like Void Rivals and G.I. Joe. Daniel Warren Johnson initially took on the writing and art duties for Transformers, later being joined by Jorge Corona on art. Along with colorist Mike Spicer and letterer Rus Wooton, they led Transformers through 24 issues. However, issue #25 marks a new chapter for this series, and a new phase requires an even more impressive creative crew.
For Transformers #25, set to release on October 8th, the creative team has undergone an exciting change. Notable writer Robert Kirkman (known for Invincible, The Walking Dead, Void Rivals) takes over the pen, while artist Dan Mora (justified by his work on Justice League Unlimited and Superman) contributes his skills. Joining them are current series colorist Mike Spicer (familiar with Stillwater and Murder Falcon), as well as letterer Rus Wooton (with credits in G.I. JOE and Void Rivals). This oversized issue #25 is an excellent starting point for new readers, and it will also include a story penned by Kirkman and the current series artist Jorge Corona (renowned for Ain’t No Grave).
Wow, I’m penning a Transformers comic!”, Kirkman exclaimed. “I’ve been hooked on this series since day one. I’ve admired how Daniel Warren Johnson and Jorge Corona have breathed life into some of my cherished characters. When Daniel’s tenure ended, I couldn’t stay on the sidelines any longer! I simply had to join in! It’s a great privilege to contribute even a small part to the rich history of these incredible characters. This universe has been a significant part of my life for as long as I can recall. I can hardly wait for everyone to witness what Dan Mora and I are concocting!
In addition to crafting “The Walking Dead” and “Invincible,” Kirkman is also penning “Void Rivals,” a segment within the expansive Energon Universe, which includes characters from “Transformers.” Dan Mora has already made a significant impact in the comic book world through works such as “Klaus,” “Once & Future,” and “Power Rangers.” Later, he transitioned to DC where he drew “Detective Comics,” “Batman/Superman: World’s Finest,” “Superman,” and “Justice League Unlimited.
Dan Mora expressed his excitement about joining the Transformers series, sharing that he’s been an avid fan of the franchise since childhood alongside Robert Kirkman. He also mentioned his admiration for Daniel Warren Johnson and Jorge Corona’s work on the comic, describing it as otherworldly. Drawing his beloved Autobots and Decepticons takes him back to the joy he experienced playing with them as a child. Mora aims to contribute his unique touch to the characters’ legacy and is eager for fans to witness the ideas he and Robert Kirkman have been developing for the Energon Universe.
Executive Editor Ben Abernathy expresses excitement over the collaboration between Robert Kirkman and Dan Mora on “TRANSFORMERS”, saying, “This is a dream come true!” He anticipates that readers will be amazed by the imaginative ideas these talented minds are working on.
In the Energon Universe, the titles are “Void Rivals,” penned by writer Robert Kirkman (known for “Invincible” and “The Walking Dead”), illustrated by artist Conor Hughes (“White Ash” and “The Game”), and colored by Patricio Delpeche (“The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country”). Additionally, there’s “G.I. JOE,” authored by writer Joshua Williamson (notable for “Superman” and “Dark Ride”), illustrated by artist Andrea Milana (“Cobra Commander”), and colored by Lee Loughridge (“Universal Monsters: The Mummy”).
