The Walking Dead icon stars in drama celebrating its 30th anniversary with special showings on TV tonight

After thirty years, the classic BBC drama This Life is back on screen tonight, March 18th, for a special re-airing.

This popular and influential series was created by Amy Jenkins and featured a talented cast including Andrew Lincoln, known from ‘The Walking Dead‘, Daniela Nardini (‘Waterloo Road’), Jack Davenport (‘Pirates of the Caribbean’), Amita Dhiri (‘The Bill’), and Jason Hughes (‘Midsomer Murders’).

The show follows five young lawyers living together in south London, exploring their friendships, career goals, and the challenges of being in their twenties.

Tonight at 10pm on BBC Four, season one will be shown again, introduced by Nardini. You can also watch seasons one and two, plus the ten-year reunion special, on iPlayer.

The show premiered in 1996 and quickly became popular, earning praise for its portrayal of 1990s culture and its inclusive storytelling, which notably featured a gay character named Warren.

Producer Jane Fallon, part of the team that first adapted the script for television, recently explained to TopMob magazine that they aimed to create something truly original.

We really aimed for something authentic and fresh, steering clear of anything predictable. We wanted a bit of playful rebellion, something that didn’t feel like everything else out there. Honestly, having a limited budget turned out to be a blessing! The BBC gave us a lot of creative freedom and just let us get on with making it our way.

Reflecting on why a show like theirs likely wouldn’t be made today, she described the television landscape at the time as a ‘Wild West’ era – a short period where TV executives were willing to take risks.

On Wednesday, March 18th at 10pm, BBC Four will begin showing all episodes of the classic drama This Life again, starting with season one. Both seasons and the ten-year reunion special will also be available to stream on iPlayer, introduced by Daniela Nardini.
