The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus on Possible Daryl Dixon and Rick Grimes Reunion

In the latest installment of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — The Book of Carol”, Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride were brought back together after a gap of two years. It’s been close to seven years since Reedus’ character, Daryl, and Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes last appeared together on “The Walking Dead” in season 9. Regrettably, as of now, we haven’t witnessed a heartwarming reunion between the brothers. (Noteworthy is that the show’s original lead reunited with Danai Gurira’s Michonne in their separate spinoff series, “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live”, which premiered in 2024.)

As Daryl Dixon‘s story draws to a close – AMC revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that the show’s fourth season, set to air in 2026, will be its last – fans are speculating if these two characters will reunite for the first time since 2018.

Reedus acknowledged the fan speculation about a potential reunion ending, stating, ‘We certainly notice it.’ There’s an abundance of creative suggestions from fans regarding various plot points. I believe it’s often more intriguing to go against audience expectations and keep them guessing,” he said.

As a movie enthusiast, I’d say it like this: “If we always catered to fans’ expectations and gave them exactly what they asked for, the endings would be predictable. That’s why I believe it’s crucial to share your unique story. People might love it, criticize it, or even hate it, but the goal isn’t just to echo the Twitter hype, you understand?

In summary, Lincoln hasn’t definitively decided against reprising his role following the conclusion of “The Ones Who Live,” a six-episode limited series. The narrative wrapped up with Rick and Michonne returning home to their kids, seemingly concluding Rick’s story—for the time being.

Lincoln has hinted at the possibility of rejoining the world of “The Walking Dead” Universe in an interview with EW. He mentioned that there are other significant characters who are still alive, and it could be thrilling to see them coexist and struggle together for survival. However, he cautioned that it would be challenging. If it were to happen, it might resemble a series like “[The Ones Who Live],” which features an intriguing narrative.

Scott M. Gimple, a past showrunner of “The Walking Dead” and presently AMC’s TV universe’s chief content officer, has suggested potential plans to unite the shows that branched off from “The Walking Dead” when the original series concluded after 11 seasons in 2022.

What’s fascinating about these [shows] is … you don’t need to watch any of these shows to enjoy any of them. However, if you follow them all, there are subtle rewards that may escape your notice, and I aim to continue creating those connections.

In further discussion, Gimple hinted that “The Ones Who Live” might intertwine with other narratives. Ideally, my ambition is to tie all the threads together at some juncture, either temporarily or for a longer duration. Whether this implies an “Avengers: Endgame”-like crossover to conclude matters or a revival of “The Walking Dead” is yet to be determined.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 premieres Sept. 7 on AMC and AMC+.
