Warning: Spoilers ahead for The War Between the Land and the Sea.
The official overnight ratings for the latest episode of The War Between the Land and the Sea are now available.
The last installment of the Doctor Who series, ‘The End of the War,’ drew an average of 1.79 million viewers when it aired on BBC One on Sunday, December 21st.
These numbers are similar to what we saw in episode 4, which had an average of 1.70 million viewers. Keep in mind that these initial numbers aren’t complete, as they don’t include people who watched the episode later on demand or through catch-up services.
The last episode of the series shockingly revealed that a group of humans committed genocide against the Homo Aqua, wiping out 90% of their population. This act left the species decimated and deeply fearful of all humans.
In a deeply emotional encounter, Salt and Barclay met one last time for talks in the Empress Hall, but they couldn’t openly share their true feelings with each other.

The episode ended with a shocking twist: Barclay’s body had undergone a transformation, giving him gills and allowing him to join Salt in the ocean.
Kate Lethbridge Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) is visibly struggling after Colonel Ibrahim’s (Alexander Devrient) death. A scene after the credits shows her angrily confronting someone for littering, even pointing a gun at them when they refuse to pick up their plastic bottle.
Okay, Whovians, it looks like we’re in for a bit of a wait! Russell T Davies is planning a Christmas special, but it won’t air until 2026. So, while it’s great to know more Doctor Who is coming, we’ve got some time to be patient before we see it on our screens.
I’m so excited – Doctor Who is coming back for a Christmas special in 2026! And if you can’t wait that long, you can now stream ‘The War Between the Land and the Sea’ on BBC iPlayer. I’ve already started watching it!
