Good news for fans! iwot Studios, the company that owns the rights to Robert Jordan’s popular The Wheel of Time novels, revealed plans for a fresh wave of content on Thursday. This includes a new animated series, movies, and even a video game based on the books.
The company is collaborating with Thomas Wu, a key artist from the popular Netflix series Arcane and the League of Legends video game it’s based on. Initiate Entertainment is also contributing to the projects.
Rick Selvage, CEO of iwot Studios, and Larry Mondragon, the company’s COO, are leading efforts to continue the story of The Wheel of Time after producing its live-action series, which ran for three seasons on Prime Video. They’re teaming up with Wu and Anthony Borquez of Initiate Entertainment to create animated movies, a new animated series, and a video game, all set in the world of The Wheel of Time.
The Wheel of Time Reboot Represents a Shift in Strategy
Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time aimed to attract fans of epic fantasy shows like Game of Thrones, and compete with other popular series such as Netflix’s The Witcher and Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. This new version is trying a different approach by targeting a younger audience, hoping to broaden the show’s appeal and introduce more people to the story.
Plans for animated series and films based on The Wheel of Time are currently without distribution deals, suggesting they won’t be released on Prime Video. These projects are intended to attract a younger audience and expand the franchise internationally. Additionally, a Wheel of Time video game is coming to PC and mobile devices, with the goal of reaching more fans and expanding the franchise to new platforms.
