Lauren S. Hissrich, the showrunner for The Witcher, has spoken for the first time about why Henry Cavill left the series, three years after his departure.
In October 2022, viewers were surprised to learn that Henry Cavill would be departing his role in the Netflix series after season three. Liam Hemsworth will be taking over as Geralt of Rivia.
Lots of people online have guessed why Henry Cavill left his role, with many suggesting disagreements about how his character should be portrayed. Some reports claim Cavill preferred to stay true to the original source material, but those involved haven’t officially confirmed or denied any of these rumors – until recently.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hissrich explained that discussions about Henry Cavill leaving his role as Geralt had been ongoing for some time, as Cavill had expressed his desire to move on from the character.
She explained that he had other projects he was eager to pursue. They didn’t want to pressure him into staying if he wasn’t enthusiastic, and ultimately, the decision felt mutually beneficial.
Hissrich explained that there was never any discussion about cancelling the show after Henry Cavill left. She emphasized that the series is larger than any single person, including herself, and is part of a broader franchise with existing books and video games. She believes *The Witcher* will continue as a property even if the show ends.

Cavill announced his departure from the show after three seasons back in October 2022.
In a social media post, Henry Cavill announced that season 4 will be his last as Geralt of Rivia, marking the end of his time playing the monster hunter and embarking on new adventures.
He also announced that Liam Hemsworth will be playing the role of Geralt, known as the White Wolf. He said he’s passing the character on with respect for his time playing Geralt and is excited to see Liam’s interpretation of this complex and interesting character.
Season 4 of The Witcher will arrive on October 30th. A new trailer recently gave fans their first glimpse of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt, showcasing him in costume and battling a frightening creature.
