With the fourth season of The Witcher coming up, there’s a big change: Liam Hemsworth is now playing Geralt, taking over from Henry Cavill. And naturally, people have a lot to say about it!
Before season 4 premieres on Netflix, Hemsworth revealed he was hesitant to take on the role of the White Wolf at first. He had some worries about following Henry Cavill in the part.
You know, when they asked me what I was hesitant about taking on this project, I thought about it and realized it’s mostly because the series already has such a dedicated fanbase. I really respect those fans and how much they love the show, and I didn’t want to mess that up!
I only agreed to be involved because I genuinely liked the source material. Being a fan was the main reason I joined the project – I believed I could portray the character well and offer a unique take on this part of the story.

What really drew me in was Geralt’s emotional journey at this point in the story. He’s going through a significant change, facing a lot of doubt, confusion, and worry – something we don’t often see him experience. It felt like a very real and vulnerable place for his character.
Hemsworth explained that the character is at a turning point. He’s dealing with personal challenges and realizes he can’t overcome them alone. He needs to admit he’s vulnerable and accept that he needs help to be strong enough to face what’s ahead.
He’s realizing how much support and belief his loved ones have in him and his goals, which is allowing him to accept their help, move forward, and rediscover himself – even becoming a stronger, new version of who he is.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich also explained that when recasting, maintaining Geralt’s appearance was a top priority.
He’s changed as a person, but many things still remind me of Geralt – like his white hair, yellow eyes, and black leather clothing. He avoids bright colors and has a very distinct way of carrying himself.
We had to allow certain aspects to remain consistent, but our initial meeting was very much led by Liam. He was determined to establish a strong connection with Geralt, and it was crucial to give him the space to do so, to explore that dynamic, and to define it for himself.
In 2022, Henry Cavill revealed he would no longer be playing Geralt, and he publicly expressed his support for the actor taking over the role.
I’m so excited for the next season! We’ve gotten little peeks at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt – some first look photos and a trailer – but honestly, it feels like forever until we finally get to see him really become Geralt when the season is released. I can’t wait!
It’s almost time – the White Wolf awaits!
