This funny action movie follows two long-lost half-brothers, Jonny (Jason Momoa) and James (Dave Bautista), who must work together when their father dies under strange circumstances. Their investigation into his death brings up old family secrets and challenges their relationship, leading them to uncover a dangerous conspiracy that threatens to destroy everything. ‘The Wrecking Crew’ Is Not Your Average Action Film

Director Ángel Manuel Soto recently shared that he didn’t want his film, The Wrecking Crew, to be just another action movie. While he aimed to create a thrilling and energetic experience fueled by the connection between the two main actors, he also wanted to add deeper meaning. After reading the script, he questioned what the film communicated about life beyond the story of a father’s passing.

Exploring the mystery of their father’s death is what really drives the story forward, and it’s incredibly satisfying to watch. The tension and competition between the siblings also offers a lot of comedic potential. When I’m evaluating a script, I look for three key elements: a compelling story, genuine emotion, and a meaningful message or commentary on life.

According to Soto, his film, The Wrecking Crew, offers a look into the everyday lives of people in Oahu, Hawaii, and celebrates the local culture. He also noticed similarities between Hawaii and Puerto Rico, particularly concerning the harmful effects of corruption and greed on Indigenous communities.

You’ll quickly connect with the people and the genuine culture. I was also interested in comparing Hawaii and Puerto Rico, specifically looking at how corruption and greed have harmed Indigenous communities and led to their displacement. We’ve been battling these issues, like gentrification, from the very beginning.
