The X-Files legend to write and star in new satirical comedy opposite OITNB and Dirty Dancing favourites

David Duchovny is writing and acting in a new comedy called Soapbox, and filming has already begun.

David Duchovny, best known for The X-Files, will be acting alongside Laverne Cox from Orange Is the New Black and Jennifer Grey, famous for Dirty Dancing.

I just got a first look at “Soapbox,” and it’s a really funny satire. The film centers around a veteran soap opera actor who suddenly gets thrown into the craziness of today’s culture wars. It’s a surprisingly sharp and hilarious take on how the past collides with the present, and I think audiences will really enjoy it.

David Duchovny co-wrote the series with Max Barbakow, the director of the 2020 romantic comedy Palm Springs, which starred Cristin Milioti and Andy Samberg.

The film will be directed by Andrew J. Cohen, who previously directed popular comedies starring Zac Efron like ‘Bad Neighbors’ and ‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates’.

The cast also includes West Duchovny, David Duchovny’s 26-year-old daughter known for her role in the Netflix series Painkiller, Randall Park from Fresh Off the Boat, and Jimmi Simpson, famous for Westworld.

David has worked with his daughter, West, before. She appeared in an episode of The X-Files in 2018, playing the character Maddy, when the show was in its eleventh season.

Details about the upcoming comedy are still being kept secret, but filming began in Los Angeles earlier this month.

David Duchovny started acting on screen in 1988 at the age of 28. He became famous for his role as Fox Mulder, an FBI special agent, in the popular TV series The X-Files, which he starred in with Gillian Anderson from 1993 to 2002 and again from 2016 to 2018. He also appeared in the show’s two related movies.

He won a Golden Globe and five Screen Actors Guild Awards for his performance, and was also nominated for two Emmys.

Throughout the series, he appeared in 191 episodes, and also contributed as a writer and director on some of them. He even playfully spoofed his famous character, Mulder, by providing the voice for a similar character in an episode of The Simpsons called ‘The Springfield Files’.

Hulu has given the go-ahead for a pilot episode of a potential new version of The X-Files. The project is being led by Ryan Coogler, the director of ‘Sinners,’ and will star Danielle Deadwyler, known for her role in ‘Till’.
