There Is Only One Aliens vs. Predator Movie Fans Deserve (And It May Finally Be Happening)

For years, fans have hoped for a major crossover between the Alien and Predator universes, and it looks like that moment might finally be coming. While both franchises have had their share of successes and disappointments, they remain two of the most popular and enduring science fiction horror series ever created. There have been hints of crossovers before, but this one feels different – it could be the epic battle fans have been anticipating for decades.

The Alien series began with Ridley Scott’s original film in 1979, and was later joined by John McTiernan’s Predator in 1987. Although the two franchises didn’t officially meet until 2004 with Alien vs. Predator, and its 2007 sequel, those crossover films introduced storylines and changes that many fans disliked. The Alien series has since moved away from those films, and later Predator movies have also ignored them. However, it looks like we might finally get the crossover fans have been hoping for in the near future.

We Need to See Dutch & Ripley Team Up In An Alien & Predator Crossover

Over the years, many actors have played leading roles in the Alien and Predator films, but Sigourney Weaver and Arnold Schwarzenegger remain the most memorable stars. Weaver first appeared as Ellen Ripley in Alien and went on to star in three more Alien movies, while Schwarzenegger played Alan “Dutch” Schaefer only in the original Predator. Both franchises launched Weaver and Schwarzenegger into stardom as sci-fi action heroes and greatly shaped their careers. It’s definitely time to see Ripley and Dutch join forces in a movie together.

Recently, Sigourney Weaver and Arnold Schwarzenegger have hinted at being open to reprising their famous roles as Ripley and Dutch. Both actors have successfully used technology to look younger for past projects like Avatar: The Way of Water, Terminator Genisys, and Terminator: Dark Fate. This means they could realistically play their characters as they appeared originally, or even as older versions. Fans are eager to see them both return in any capacity.

Alien & Predator’s Recent Projects Have Set Up the Perfect Crossover Event

A recent animated film, Predator: Killer of Killers, may have hinted at Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising his role as Dutch. The film concluded with characters Kenji Kawakami and John J. Torres escaping the Predator’s home planet, while the hunter Ursa was recaptured. She was put back into suspended animation with other successful Predator killers, including Naru from Prey, Mike Harrigan from Predator 2, and, notably, Dutch.

Bringing back characters like Dutch from the Predator films or Ellen Ripley from Alien would be simple to explain within those universes. The Alien franchise is currently set in a time period that could easily allow Ripley to reappear. The new Alien: Earth TV series, in fact, is set just two years before the events of the original Alien movie, with Ripley being the only survivor of that story. It would be amazing to see a future film or show unite Ripley, Dutch, and other surviving characters.

What Have Arnold Schwarzenegger & Sigourney Weaver Said About Returning As Dutch & Ripley?

During a live episode of the podcast Happy, Sad, Confused at New York Comic-Con in October 2025, Sigourney Weaver hinted at a possible return to her iconic role as Ellen Ripley after 28 years. She mentioned that Walter Hill, a producer on the Alien films and a friend, had developed a detailed outline—about 50 pages long—for Ripley’s current storyline. Weaver shared that she’d discussed this with representatives from the studio (now Disney, formerly Fox) and felt the material was compelling. She’s considering collaborating with Hill to further develop the story.

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, director Dan Trachtenberg shared that he’s been talking with Arnold Schwarzenegger about a possible return to the Predator franchise. Trachtenberg mentioned Schwarzenegger was surprised to learn that fans quote “Get to the chopper!” more often than “I’ll be back,” showing he understands the series’ lasting appeal. They discussed potential future storylines, like exploring what happened to Dutch and Naru, or even expanding on events hinted at in previous films – leaving many possibilities open for new stories.

This creates a possibility for Ripley and Dutch to meet in a future crossover between the Alien and Predator franchises – a pairing that would likely be much more successful than any past crossovers.
