There Might Now Be SEVEN (Yes, 7) Avengers: Doomsday Trailers After Latest Marvel Movie Update

The upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday is a huge event for Marvel, and the studio is planning a special marketing campaign to keep fans talking about it for months. Over the past few weeks, Marvel has been releasing short teasers, each highlighting a different character or team from the film. While they initially planned for four teasers, hints suggested a fifth was coming, and now it seems there could be even more trailers released before the movie comes out this December.

The Korean media rating board website currently lists seven trailers for Avengers: Doomsday. The newest one was rated on January 8th. While details are limited – these might be different cuts of trailers we’ve already seen – it’s likely we’ll get up to three more trailers. So far, four trailers have been released: three are available online (including the one featuring the X-Men), and the fourth is playing in theaters only.

Why Avengers: Doomsday Might Actually Have Seven Trailers

If Marvel has a few more trailers for Doomsday coming, they’ll likely release them one per week, as they’ve been doing. This would mean the last trailer would appear in theaters the weekend of January 30th to February 1st – a week before the Super Bowl. Studios often use the Super Bowl to showcase their upcoming movies to a huge audience, and Disney recently debuted a first look at The Fantastic Four: First Steps during the game. So, it wouldn’t be surprising if they had something planned for Doomsday as well.

The recent series of short previews might lead to one final trailer for Doomsday, offering a broader look at the film’s story instead of focusing on specific characters. So far, four teasers have been released, but Robert Downey Jr. hasn’t appeared as Doctor Doom in any of them. It’s doubtful the initial promotional push will end without revealing the main villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Downey’s return is a key part of the film’s appeal, and showing his first appearance as the character during the Super Bowl would create a lot of excitement.

The three upcoming teasers will likely continue the pattern of highlighting different groups of characters from the expansive cast of Doomsday. It’s notable that the first four teasers featured characters with broad appeal – both to dedicated fans and more casual viewers – like Captain America, Thor, the X-Men, and Black Panther. If Marvel continues this strategy, the next teasers will probably focus on other popular, leading heroes who are expected to be in the film. For example, while not officially announced, all indications suggest Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Doctor Strange, and he could be featured in one of these teasers.

It will be interesting to see how the heavy marketing for Doomsday affects advertising for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Originally, many expected a trailer for Brand New Day to play before Avatar: Fire and Ash, but that didn’t happen. While Sony is distributing the Spider-Man film, they might be intentionally waiting to release trailers so Brand New Day doesn’t get lost amidst all the Doomsday promotion. We’ll probably see a Spider-Man teaser soon, but with several months still to go before the movie’s release, Doomsday can continue to be the main focus.
