I’m excited about the release of Avengers: Doomsday and finding out if the X-Men will finally join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, a recent rumor is disappointing: it suggests that Patrick Stewart, who is reprising his role in the movie, may be retiring from the part.
As a lifelong Star Trek fan, I’ve always admired Patrick Stewart’s work, especially his portrayal of Jean-Luc Picard in The Next Generation, Picard, and the Star Trek films. I was deeply moved by his performances, and the recent news that he won’t be reprising the role is particularly upsetting.
Patrick Stewart Reportedly Retired From Acting On The Set Of Avengers: Doomsday
YouTuber Kristian Harloff, who often shares information about Marvel films, recently discussed the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday with John Rocha in a video. While talking about a leaked trailer – and the possibility of several trailers being released – Harloff mentioned a rumor that this will be Patrick Stewart’s last acting role.
Patrick Stewart will be here playing Professor X. And it seems this will be his last acting role – he’s reportedly retiring after this appearance.
This is currently just speculation, as neither Patrick Stewart nor Marvel has confirmed anything. After a long and successful career, could the 85-year-old actor be considering retirement? It’s definitely a possibility.
Patrick Stewart’s Retirement Would Bum Me Out As A Star Trek Fan, But Is He Really Leaving Acting?
It might seem a little greedy to admit, but I was really hoping to see Patrick Stewart return to Star Trek in some way after Picard finished. I knew getting Picard at all was amazing, but rumors about a script for a new story led me to believe his time as one of the greatest Trek characters wasn’t actually over.
James McAvoy remembers a specific experience with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen while filming X-Men: Days of Future Past that highlighted how uniquely talented they are as actors.
Patrick Stewart has a history of saying he’s finished with a role, then coming back to it. For example, he announced he was done playing Professor X after the movie Logan. However, he’s now reprising the role and is set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, which is coming out in 2025.
The rumor might be true, but Stewart is free to change his mind. And honestly, after giving us so much great work over the years, he deserves to relax and enjoy his life. It’s just a shame that if he does retire from acting, it won’t be with a Star Trek project.
The new Avengers movie, Doomsday, is scheduled to come out on December 16, 2026. We’ll likely find out around that time if Patrick Stewart plans to retire from acting. I’m still really looking forward to the film, and I also hope we see another Star Trek movie in theaters soon.
