Square Enix is creating a new Dragon Quest game scheduled to launch in 2026. However, it won’t be a traditional RPG – it’s a mobile game called *Dragon Quest Smash/Grow* that features roguelite elements.
The game seems similar to Vampire Survivors – you control a character who quickly moves around the screen, avoiding enemies while automatically attacking them.
Because this game is a roguelite, you’ll get stronger with each attempt by collecting power-ups and teaming up with allies, ultimately boosting your attack power.
Here’s how the publisher describes it:
Dragon Quest Smash/Grow is a fast-paced and addictive RPG where you battle waves of monsters to become stronger. Once powered up, you can finish enemies with Dragon Quest’s famous finishing moves! You’ll also unlock random abilities that help you customize your character and adapt to each new challenge, making every playthrough a fresh and unique Dragon Quest adventure.
Don’t worry, this game will be available everywhere! Unlike some previous Dragon Quest titles, it won’t be limited to Japan.
We’re holding a closed beta test from October 14th to October 21st. If you’d like to participate, you can sign up here.
Fans of this site are likely most excited about the HD-2D Remakes of Dragon Quest 1 & 2, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, and the still-to-come Dragon Quest 12.
