The second season of “Wednesday” has long-awaitedly debuted on Netflix’s 2025 schedule, marking the end of a nearly two-and-a-half-year wait. In this new season, we can expect fresh mysteries and plotlines, with a significant one revolving around Morticia and Gomez. Notably, this season pays homage to “The Addams Family Values” in a memorable scene between the iconic couple, which I found wonderfully executed and truly enjoyed.
As a fan who grew up with The Addams Family, “Wednesday” quickly became one of my favorite shows to binge on Netflix. However, I’ve always yearned for a deeper exploration of her parents, Morticia and Gomez. Fortunately, in Season 2, they have a more substantial role, and being in this line of work afforded me the opportunity to pose questions to the masterminds behind the series, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. When I asked them about delving into Morticia and Gomez’s love story this time, their immediate response was that it was a delightful experience, with Gough adding that it was an enjoyable process for them.
It was a blast! They’ve got all the time and space needed to enjoy themselves, but remember, they’re not just any couple – they’re parents of two teenagers, so it’s not always smooth sailing.
I went on elaborating about the concept, expressing my viewpoint that despite their peculiarities and unique appearances, their unwavering love and ability to navigate challenges together make them an inspiring couple. Even amidst their strangeness, they remain a beacon worth emulating.
However, they remain the most inspiring pair as their unwavering affection for each other continues to captivate us. It’s this enduring love that makes them so intriguing, and there exists a striking difference in their appearances which adds an extra layer of fascination.
In fact, it’s reminiscent of the homage when Luis Guzmán and Catherine Zeta-Jones perform the renowned tango, similar to Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia from “The Addams Family Values.” Yes, I’m referring to the scene where Gomez tenderly kisses Morticia’s arm, expressing their deep affection. You might have noticed this in “Wednesday” Season 2 as well!
Being a follower of these two characters, naturally, I inquired about the creation process behind the tribute and how they managed to make it so authentic. The creators shared that Guzman and Zeta-Jones truly personalized it, as Millar stated.
As a follower, I felt a sense of ownership towards the performance, and that’s because both Luis and Catherine truly excelled. You might already know that Catherine is based in Chicago and an exceptional dancer. Given this, it seems Luis took up lessons to elevate his skills, aiming to be an outstanding partner for her. And let me tell you, they executed the routine flawlessly.
Discovering that Luis Guzmán plans to take dance lessons to match steps with Zeta-Jones is such a delightful surprise – it’s exactly what I didn’t realize was missing, and it feels incredibly perfect!
As a devoted fan, I must say, the transformation in Season 2 of Wednesday has been quite remarkable! The ensemble cast has expanded, and the overall horror element has intensified, making the series even more captivating. But what truly stood out for me was the heartfelt moment that felt like an eternal ode to these two characters I adore so dearly. It made the whole experience that much more enchanting!
Although I can’t imagine anything surpassing the passionate tango between Gomez and Morticia from The Addams Family Values‘ cast, that scene beautifully portrayed their deep-rooted love for each other. It would be wonderful if future episodes delve deeper into their relationship, as it’s refreshing to witness such intense, captivating, and devoted love on screen.
