Hollywood loves to depict extreme weather events, often exaggerating them into massive disasters. Films like Twisters, The Day After Tomorrow, and San Andreas showcase the destruction and struggle for survival during these events, and some, like Sharknado and Crawl, even add dangerous animals to the chaos. Now, Netflix’s new movie, Thrash, takes things a step further by combining a huge hurricane with a swarm of aggressive sharks. You can check out the exciting trailer below.
The trailer quickly establishes the setting: a devastating category 5 hurricane. We then meet the people who will be trapped as the city floods. The situation takes a terrifying turn when a truck crashes into a statue, releasing a massive amount of blood into the water. This attracts a swarm of sharks, and the horror quickly escalates. Thrash Has Had A Wild Ride To Netflix

The movie originally known as Beneath the Storm was first scheduled to hit theaters on August 1st. It was later renamed Shiver and moved forward to a July 3rd release. However, that didn’t last, and it’s believed the change may have been due to another film, a thriller project by Tim Miller, also being titled Shiver.
I’ve been following this movie’s journey, and it’s been quite a ride! Just when things seemed set, Sony unexpectedly removed it from their release schedule and even changed the title again. Then came the decision to release it through streaming, which ultimately led to a deal with Netflix. Now, after being called Thrash, it finally looks like it’s nearing completion and we’ll actually get to see it!
Thrash is finally coming to the big screen, and it won’t hold back – it’s rated R! The trailer hints at some gruesome deaths, making it clear these sharks are relentlessly hungry for blood and won’t be stopped easily.
Tommy Wirkola, known for directing films like Violent Night, Dead Snow, and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, is the director and writer of Thrash. He’s producing the film alongside Adam McKay and Kevin J. Messick. The movie features Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2), Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place: Part II), Alyla Browne (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Stacy Clausen and Costa D’Angelo (Crazy Fun Park), Amy Mathews (The Twelve), Elijah Ungvary (A Quiet Place: Day One), Dante Ubaldi, Jon Prasida (Kung Fu), Gemma Dart (Ten Pound Moms), Akosia Sabet (Winchester), Sian Luxford, and Sami Afuni (Godzilla x Kong: Supernova).
Thrash is set to hit Netflix on April 10th, 2026.
