It seems that the storyline in Ghost of Yotei for the PS5 offers more depth than merely a quest for revenge against the Yotei Six who were responsible for Astu’s family’s demise.
In their recent chat with GamesRadar, Sucker Punch Productions hinted that what we’ve seen so far is just the beginning of the story. Nate Fox added, “We don’t want to reveal too much about the plot, but I can assure you that her quest for revenge is merely the start – certainly not the entire tale, but it’s a strong foundation.
The remark was made following the mention that Assassin’s Creed Shadow, released earlier in the year, takes place in the same environment as Ghost of Yotei, and is likewise a narrative centered around revenge with elements of investigation.
Fox mentioned that their game shares characteristics they value and emphasized that their tale of revenge, reminiscent of samurai cinema, is merely the starting point in the extensive saga of Atsu transforming from a solitary, broken figure into a leader gathering a pack, suggesting that there’s more to the game than just seeking vengeance.
In simpler terms, Jason Connell, the Creative Director, explains that they often encounter such situations as creatives. Essentially, he means they admire this type of content (video games, films, or TV shows), and they are glad when new ones emerge since they help push the creative industry forward.
In a separate conversation with Game Informer, they elaborated on the game’s narrative setup. Unlike before, you don’t get to choose the order of tracking down the six members of the Yotei Six; instead, the story unfolds in a consecutive manner to maximize emotional impact during Atsu’s quest for vengeance. They hinted at more choices being available in the sequel, but the main structure remains linear.
