Everyone thinks of horror movies when October rolls around, but plenty of other genres are great for getting into the spooky spirit. If you’re not a huge horror fan, there’s a fantastic action movie based on a comic book that still has plenty of supernatural thrills, making it perfect for watching during September and October.
We’re talking about the 1994 film *The Crow*, which starred the late Brandon Lee. For over thirty years, Alex Proyas’ adaptation of the James O’Barr comic has gained a dedicated following, combining exciting action with a dark, Halloween-like atmosphere. And now, starting this month, it’s become more accessible thanks to streaming on Paramount+.
As of September 1st, *The Crow* is once again available on Paramount+, the streaming service where it’s been most frequently shown.
The Crow Is Perfect for Halloween
Although *The Crow* isn’t strictly a horror film, it’s a fantastic choice for Halloween viewing. The movie is set on Halloween night, and its dark, gothic atmosphere and edgy 90s style really capture the Halloween spirit.
The main character, Eric Draven, has a distinctly Halloween-inspired appearance with his face paint and black leather outfit. The presence of an actual crow adds a subtle, yet effective, detail to his look.
Everything about *The Crow*-the visuals, the soundtrack, the overall atmosphere-creates a haunting, autumnal mood, like walking alone on a cold October night. It’s hard to think of a movie that feels more perfectly suited to Halloween.
New Halloween Season Additions on Paramount+
On September 1st, Paramount+ added a number of horror and related titles, including three Marvel films that complement the action-horror film *The Crow*. Now, all three original *Blade* movies are available on Paramount+, creating a spooky double feature alongside *The Crow*.
On September 1st, a selection of horror movies will be added, including *Cloverfield*, *World War Z*, *Scary Movie*, *Scream 4*, *I Know What You Did Last Summer*, *Sleepy Hollow*, *The Faculty*, *The Ring*, and the original eight *Friday the 13th* films.
You can find a complete list of new horror movies and shows here. Paramount+ is currently adding more horror content than streaming services like Netflix, HBO Max, and Hulu. Keep in mind that these titles might not stay available throughout October, so it’s best to watch them soon!
