Now that Pokemon Legends: Z-A is available, Pokemon fans are already looking ahead to the next generation of games, Generation 10. Even if you’re still enjoying Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it’s hard not to be excited about what comes next! We don’t know much about Gen 10 yet, but many expect it to be released around 2026. While leaks and rumors have surfaced, we won’t know for sure what the next game will be like until official announcements are made. Having played Pokemon Legends: Z-A, I’m hoping some of its innovative features will be included in future installments.
The Legends games are unique – they’re not quite side stories, but not traditional Pokémon games either. Many believe these games allow Pokémon and Game Freak to try out new ideas. If that’s true, I’m hoping the best parts of Pokémon Legends: Z-A become permanent features in future games, with one exception. Here are three things from Pokémon Legends: Z-A I’d like to see in the next generation, and one feature that should remain exclusive to the Legends series.
3) Make Alpha Pokemon a Main Series Staple

Alpha Pokémon—massive, powerful versions of popular creatures—first appeared in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. They’re back in Legends: Z-A, and players have really enjoyed using them for photos and battling. While they can be challenging opponents, many people love the fun of collecting these oversized Pokémon. Because of their popularity in both Legends games, a lot of fans are hoping Alpha Pokémon will become a permanent part of the main Pokémon series.
That Alpha Houndoom was really tough, and it still sticks with me! But overall, I think adding Alpha Pokémon to future games, starting with Generation 10, would be a great way to keep things interesting. It would also give Shiny hunters another exciting goal to work towards when building their perfect post-game team.
2) Let Us Eat at Cafes/Restaurants With Pokemon

One of the most popular features of Legends: Z-A seems to be the ability to take photos with your Pokémon in cafes. It’s a small detail, but players really enjoy being able to hang out in different locations with their customized character and favorite Pokémon. Hopefully, future Pokémon games will include similar relaxing spaces where players can connect with their team.
Games like Pokemon Scarlet & Violet feature simple activities like making sandwiches, and Pokemon Sword & Shield included cooking and camping. But those took a bit more effort. For the next generation of games, I’d love to see a robust crafting system return, but it would also be great to have a quick, easy way to boost your team and take a nice picture.
1) Keep Robust Character Customization

One thing the next Pokémon generation absolutely needs to maintain is robust character customization. Being able to personalize your trainer with a wide variety of clothes and accessories – and adjust their appearance – was a standout feature in Legends: Z-A. That game had the best character customization of any Pokémon title, and it would be really disappointing if the next generation didn’t offer the same level of detail.
Being able to customize your character isn’t a huge part of how the game plays, but it really draws you into the Pokémon world. Since the main character often doesn’t have a strong personality, creating a unique look with outfits and hairstyles helps you feel more connected and like it’s truly your adventure.
But Real-Time Battles Can Go

While the real-time battles in Pokémon Legends: Z-A are an interesting tryout, I hope the series doesn’t adopt them permanently. I enjoy action games, but Pokémon’s traditional turn-based battles are more accessible and allow for casual play. The new battle system also changes how moves work, which shakes up the strategies competitive players know.
It’s great that the Legends games are trying out real-time battles, but I really hope the main Pokémon series stays turn-based. That traditional style is a core part of what makes Pokémon special, and I’d be sad to see it change. Let’s keep real-time battles for spin-off games like Legends, and preserve the turn-based system in the main games, please!
