Do you remember Thick as Thieves, the new immersive sim from Warren Spector, the creator of Deus Ex? It’s changed quite a bit since it was first shown in December 2024 – it’s now designed for single-player experiences and two-player cooperative gameplay.
OtherSide Entertainment announced on Steam that their game, Thick as Thieves, is shifting its focus. Originally planned as a player-versus-player-versus-environment (PvPvE) game, the developers discovered they enjoyed creating a solo and co-op experience more as the game and its world, Kilcairn, developed. Because of this, they’ve decided to change the game’s direction to prioritize those modes.
The team at OtherSide feels these changes enhance the game’s core strengths – its exciting and unpredictable stealth gameplay. They’ve noticed improvements in both single-player and co-op experiences during testing, leading to some really memorable moments. Now, they’re focused on polishing everything further before the game’s release.
We’ll get a better look at Thick as Thieves on April 9th during the Triple-I Initiative showcase. A new gameplay trailer will be revealed, and the developers hint at other exciting announcements, possibly including a release date or information about a chance to play the game. We’ll have to wait and see!
Currently, this new direction feels like a better fit for the 1910s historical setting of OtherSide. The game focuses on becoming a skilled thief, and what makes it interesting is that each night presents unique, unpredictable challenges.
Similar to the game Thief, you’ll need to carefully watch for openings, sneak past guards, and use your abilities to successfully complete heists. It makes you wonder if there’s a larger story at play, especially since the original idea was to create a unique, player-driven narrative through each mission. However, the game’s style is fantastic, and anything new created by the team behind Looking Glass and Warren Spector is worth exploring.
Thick as Thieves is planned for this year and will be available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
