Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow Gets New Gameplay Trailer Showcasing a Heist and December 4 Release Date

Maze Theory and Eidos Montreal, the developers of the virtual reality game Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow, have announced it will be released on December 4th. Vertigo Games is publishing the VR-only title, and a new trailer demonstrating gameplay on the PlayStation VR2 has just been released. You can watch the trailer below.

The trailer focuses on Magpie’s mission to steal an ancient relic that Northcrest is clearly after. To succeed, she’ll need to sneak past patrolling guards and through guarded buildings to find it.

The latest gameplay trailer showcases the tools available to the main character, Magpie. These include a scope for spotting guards and hidden safes, and classic tools reminiscent of the Thief series, like an arrow that creates climbable points and water arrows that can extinguish lights to create shadows.

The trailer gives us a clear view of Magpie’s movement abilities, including climbing buildings by using loose bricks and pipes as handholds. It also demonstrates how players can knock out guards with a blackjack and open locked doors using lockpicks.

Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow was first revealed in June, and will be available on PlayStation VR2, PC VR, and Meta Quest 2, 3, and 3S. The announcement included a trailer introducing Magpie, the new main character, who is mentored by the original Thief series hero, Garrett.

Shortly after the game was announced, Stephen Russell, the original voice of Garrett, returned to play the character. In a video, he explained that he’d voiced Garrett in almost every Thief game and related project for the past 30 years, except for the 2014 reboot, which featured Romano Orzari as the voice actor.

In a recent video, Russel shared how happy he was to be reunited with an old friend. “I’ve really missed him! He’s hilarious, and the new game really captures his personality,” he said.

This character is really special to me – it’s how I began my career in gaming! I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity, and I’m thrilled to be back voicing Garrett.

According to lead game designer Richard Bunn, the upcoming game Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow will tell a story set between the events of the classic Thief trilogy and the 2014 Thief reboot.
