The Big Bang Theory universe is expanding once more.
A fresh version of the popular long-running sitcom, centering around characters like Sheldon Cooper (played by Jim Parsons) and Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), along with their group of friends, has been greenlit for a series on HBO Max, as announced in a press release on July 9.
The project is part of a TV series lineup, being its fourth installment, and it joins other shows such as “Young Sheldon” and “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.” In this new storyline, the antics of Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman), a character who gained more attention in later seasons of “The Big Bang Theory,” will take center stage.
The story goes that Stuart Bloom, proprietor of a comic book store, finds himself in an unusual predicament. He’s been assigned a mission to reestablish normality, following an unintentional incident where he activated a device created by Sheldon and Leonard. This mishap led to a cataclysmic event across multiple universes, which we might refer to as a multiverse crisis or Armageddon.
The announcement particularly hinted at cameos from characters who originate from different realities, as seen in the original show (aired between 2007 and 2019), though it cautioned that “as suggested by the title, events take a turn for the worse.
Alongside Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie, who were all regulars on the original series, will be reprising their characters for the upcoming show. It’s not unusual to see popular characters from The Big Bang Theory make a comeback on television screens.
In May 2024, Parsons was seen alongside Mayim Bialik, who portrayed his wife Amy Farrah Fowler in the initial series, during the final episode of “Young Sheldon.” After providing narration for all seven seasons, he made an appearance as a character.
He shared with TopMob News at the time, “It was incredibly unique and memorable to carry out that task.” He continued, “When you film the last episode, it feels like it’s all wrapped up for you. Then a few months later, when it ends for everyone else, it brings back that strange, overwhelming sensation all over again.
But the Emmy winner cautioned fans not to get their hopes up for more Sheldon going forward.
“Never say never to anything,” he said. “Life is long, God willing. But I don’t think so.”

“Final group scene,” Kaley Cuoco posted with heart emojis. “That’s a wrap.”
“This set. Getting packed up,” Kevin Sussman posted.
One of the most delightful aspects of consistently attending Stage 25 has been the joy of encountering Melissa Rauch’s radiant smile, as Kevin Sussman often points out. In response, Melissa Rauch shared and added that while Stuart may have settled down at the Wolowitz household, Kevin Sussman has found a unique place in her heart.
Jim Parsons posted: “Three knocks, thank you…Thank you, apartment 4A, for housing countless dreams realized and friendships formed. And a heartfelt thanks to each of you – indeed, to YOU reading this now! As we prepare to record our last episode tonight, as we pass through the apartment door for the final time, it’s challenging to express what an extraordinary journey this has been. However, the feelings of love and gratitude surface…so here’s to all of you. Every single one of you. Thank you, and happy birthday to @sanctionedjohnnygalecki and @kunalkarmanayyar – what perfect timing for a celebration! May your next 12 years be as lively and delightful as the last 12 years I’ve been fortunate enough to know and collaborate with you both.
I’m going to miss taking naps next to Mayim. Since our dressing rooms are adjacent, I often imagine what it would look like if there was no wall between us. By the way, Mayim’s room is also where some of my most productive therapy sessions have taken place, thanks Dr. Bialik.
“Goodnight, Pasadena,” Melissa Rauch posted.
Kevin Sussman posted: “#SimonHelberg and I have spent countless hours discussing acting, theater, film, and everything we’re both enthusiastic about in our careers. One of the most hilarious individuals I’ve encountered, both on-screen and off. Despite the incredible fame brought by the show, Simon’s love for his work has remained constant. He continues to learn, question, and even now, he delivers spot-on Christopher Walken impressions that cause you to choke on your drink. I really admire this guy.
“Leonard Hofstadter, PhD,” Johnny Galecki posted.
