To truly make the Paranormal Activity franchise more frightening, the best approach would be to immerse audiences directly into the scary experiences, and video games are ideal for that. However, there have only been a few game adaptations: a mobile game called Paranormal Activity: Sanctuary released in 2011, and a VR title, Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul, from 2017. Now, nine years later, Darkstone Digital, the team behind The Mortuary Assistant, is returning to the franchise with Paranormal Activity: Threshold, which looks genuinely terrifying.

How Paranormal Activity: Threshold Will Haunt Players

Like other games in the Paranormal Activity series, Paranormal Activity: Threshold centers around an ordinary family terrorized by a strange presence in their home. A preview of the game, shown to journalists like those at Comicbook.com, revealed gameplay similar to first-person horror games such as Outlast or Amnesia.

Players experience the game through the lens of a home video camera, investigating a house filled with puzzles and strange objects like a Ouija board and an EMF reader. The trailer suggests the game will focus on creating a spooky atmosphere and delivering sudden scares. It features a mysterious presence lurking in the shadows and appearing unexpectedly. This entity seems more actively hostile than ghosts and demons from past games; a chilling moment shows a player being suddenly attacked from behind while checking their equipment and dragged away.

The game aims to capture the realistic, found-footage style of the Paranormal Activity movies, with a story and characters that fit seamlessly into the existing series. Darkstone Digital, the team behind the popular game The Mortuary Assistant, is bringing their expertise to Paranormal Activity: Threshold, promising a truly frightening and suspenseful experience.

Although a specific release date hasn’t been announced, the game is currently planned to come out in 2026. Horror fans who are eager to experience a spooky adventure can now add Paranormal Activity: Threshold to their Steam wishlist.
