Following its success with both critics and audiences, the BBC One series “This City Is Ours” will be coming back for another installment.
As an avid viewer, I found myself deeply engrossed in the first season of this gripping crime series. It centers around a notorious gang’s leader who was planning to step down, setting off a ruthless power struggle between two contenders for the throne – Michael Kavanagh (James Nelson-Joyce) and Jamie Phelan (Jack McMullen). Both of them believed themselves to be the rightful heirs to the position.
Tonight, I found myself utterly captivated by the gripping conclusion of this exceptional series that unfolded before my eyes on BBC One – a must-watch for any discerning viewer! And here’s the best part: If you missed it live or want to revisit the magic, simply head over to iPlayer. Trust me; there are tantalizing hints of even greater adventures yet to be unveiled by this remarkable show.
Given these circumstances, it’s not unexpected that the show will be renewed, particularly considering the BBC reported impressive viewership numbers during its eight-episode broadcast. Many viewers have been discovering the series on iPlayer in the weeks following its premiere.

1 Million more viewers have watched Episode 1 compared to its initial overnight count, bringing the total viewership to 6.6 million. This makes it the highest-watched new drama premiere on our channel for the year up until now.
Regarding the renewal of our series, the mastermind behind This City Is Ours – Stephen Butchard, creator, head writer, and executive producer – expressed his awe at the overwhelmingly positive feedback we’ve received. I simply can’t thank our audience enough for investing their time and emotions into our creation.
I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to Lindsay Salt and her outstanding BBC Drama team. Their steadfast backing and faith in our series, narrative, and characters is truly appreciated. Moreover, I can’t thank them enough for giving us another chance to tell this story! Looking forward to seeing you soon!
In a recent statement, the head of BBC Drama, Salt, expressed his satisfaction: “This City Is Ours was one of our initial projects when I came aboard the BBC. I’m thrilled with how gracefully Stephen, Saul Dibb, and the Left Bank crew have transformed it for television.
It’s been heartening to observe the audience’s reactions, as countless individuals have stumbled upon and grown captivated by the series’ exhilarating, character-centric narrative – finding themselves engrossed in the fierce struggle of the Phelan family.
I’m thrilled that we can continue from our great initial outing, proving that there’s even more exciting content to come for this extraordinary series.
He shared that the team is outstanding, boasting exceptional writing and filming in Liverpool, which makes it an ideal holiday present. However, he cautioned against expecting a Season 2, as there’s a possibility we might not receive one after all.
As a movie lover, I can only say that I truly appreciated the experience. If this project moves forward, it will be wonderful. At this point, it’s out of my control – the fate of the project is now in the hands of destiny. If it doesn’t happen, I’ll have to remain grateful for the journey I’ve already been on.
It seems the gods – well, the BBC – have listened.
