This Crunchyroll Hidden Gem Is a Must-Watch for Isekai Anime Fans

Crunchyroll has a lot of new anime this fall, and one show stands out for fans of the ‘Isekai’ genre. Isekai—stories about being transported to another world—is incredibly popular, especially since many begin as best-selling light novels in Japan. With so many new Isekai anime coming out each season, this one is definitely worth checking out if you enjoy the genre.

Crunchyroll is premiering many new shows this Fall, but A Wild Last Boss Appeared! is quickly becoming a fan favorite. The show stands out due to its detailed world-building and impressive animation. It features a remarkably powerful main character who playfully refers to themself as “We,” delivering the exciting, over-the-top action viewers expect.

A Wild Lass Boss Appeared! Is Really Standing Out

Originally a series of novels starting in 2015 by Firehead (writing) and YahaKo (illustrations), A Wild Last Boss Appeared! recently premiered as an anime this Fall. The story, directed by Yuya Horiuchi at Wao World, revolves around the online RPG Exgate. The main character plays as Lufas Maphaahl and quickly becomes a powerful player, essentially acting as a ‘final boss’ before the game’s intended one. This leads other players to team up and challenge Lufas, creating their own unique stories and experiences within the game instead of following the original plot.

Lufas, a powerful enemy, was ultimately defeated by a team called the Seven Stars. However, the story takes a twist when the main character is unexpectedly transported into the game world, Exgate. They awaken as Lufas himself, reborn 200 years after his original defeat. Now, they must uncover the changes that have occurred in this fantasy world, while also noticing the unsettling similarities to the game they once knew.

What Makes Last Boss So Different

Unlike many other stories in the ‘isekai’ genre, A Wild Last Boss Appeared! focuses on a unique character: Lufas. Like the main character in Overlord, Lufas is incredibly powerful from the start. However, Lufas soon learns that her defeat in a game caused major problems for this new fantasy world. Now, she’s traveling to reunite with her former, equally powerful allies to understand what happened. But her goal isn’t destruction – she’s trying to fix things.

Lufas’s adventure may seem relaxed, but it’s already delivered some incredible moments. The action is really well done, with smooth and exciting fight scenes – the dogfight with the flying creature in the newest episode is a standout – and some impressive magical abilities. Lufas is also uncovering a personal mystery, as they begin to remember things that seem to belong to the character they’ve become, despite knowing they originally came from our world. This intriguing mystery will continue to develop in upcoming episodes this fall.
