This fan-favorite action game is finally getting a physical release on Xbox, PS5 — here’s the release date for preorders of its limited run

Over the past ten years, more and more people have been buying games digitally, and as a result, it’s becoming rarer to find physical copies of games – particularly smaller, independent titles.

Occasionally, a game proves so popular that developers decide to release physical copies even after the initial launch, or they’ll partner with another company to do so. That’s exactly what’s happening now with a beloved action game from 2023.

Hi-Fi Rush is a fast-paced action game where you fight waves of robots by syncing your attacks to the beat of the music. Developed by Tango Gameworks, it originally launched as a digital-only title, but publisher Krafton has teamed up with Limited Run Games to create a physical copy for fans.

Limited Run Games announced on Sunday that they will be releasing physical copies of Hi-Fi Rush for both Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Preorders open on January 16th and will close on March 1st. The games are expected to ship between July and September, according to the publisher.

Hi-Fi Rush will have three different physical versions you can buy. The Rhythm Edition costs $39.99 and comes with the full game, special cosmetic items from the Deluxe Edition, and three extra costume packs.

For $69.99, the Smidge Edition includes all the content from the Rhythm Edition, plus a three-disc soundtrack and a collectible box designed to look like Smidge, the robot fridge from the game.

Finally, there’s the $174.99 Project Armstrong Edition. This package includes everything from the other editions, plus a collector’s box, a beautiful artbook, an 8-inch 808 plushie, a 6-inch replica of Chai’s guitar, Chai’s Project Armstrong pass, a glow-in-the-dark MP3 player pin, and a numbered certificate proving its authenticity.

A big Hi-Fi Rush encore it absolutely deserves

As a researcher studying game development, I found Hi-Fi Rush to be a remarkably daring release. It really stood out because Tango Gameworks, known for their horror games like The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo, completely switched gears and created something truly original – not just within the rhythm game genre, but in gaming overall.

It’s great to see this game finally getting a physical release – we’ve known Limited Run was working on it for a while, but hadn’t heard much until now. This is also welcome news for the game and its developer, Tango Gameworks, especially since Microsoft closed three of its Xbox studios, including Tango, earlier in 2024. Thankfully, Krafton, the publisher of PUBG, acquired Tango a few months later, preventing its closure.

The future of Hi-Fi Rush and Tango Gameworks is still uncertain, though they’re considering new projects related to the game. It’s great to see this vibrant action game getting a second life with physical copies, and I hope Limited Run makes enough for everyone who wants one. Keep in mind that Limited Run’s games usually sell out quickly and don’t get restocked, so if you’re interested, it’s best to preorder right away.

Hi-Fi Rush is currently available for digital download on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Ally, Windows PC (through Steam, Epic Games, and Xbox on PC), and PlayStation 5 for $29.99. It’s also included with Xbox Game Pass, letting you play it on any Xbox console.
