It’s now quite common to see Hollywood actors starring in video games, both as characters and by letting developers use their appearance. Sometimes, like in the new 007 game, they seem fully invested in the role. Other times, like with the recent Hitman DLC featuring Eminem and Bruce Lee, it’s clearly a fun, playful addition that acknowledges the celebrity cameo.

IO Interactive is aiming for a sweet spot between intense action and outright horror with their new mission, “Patient Zero: Requiem.” In this installment, Agent 47 is tasked with eliminating Lilith Devereux at the Carlisle Estate in Dartmoor. The trailer shown at The Game Awards suggests a more suspenseful and frightening experience, moving away from the quirky, self-aware style of the previous “Slim Shady” mission. To further enhance the horror atmosphere – almost like a Resident Evil game – IO Interactive has cast a famous actress known for her work in the Resident Evil films, marking her video game debut – a delightful surprise for fans of both series.

A new mission has been added to Hitman World of Assassins as part of the latest Elusive Target event. This is the fourth free downloadable content pack for the game, and another one will be released in February. Milla Jovovich is a well-known name in gaming, and is herself a fan of video games. She’s best known for starring in the Resident Evil movies, and while her character Alice hasn’t appeared in the games themselves, she’s become closely associated with the series through the films. That makes her appearance in the new mission, “Patient Zero: Requiem,” particularly interesting.

The new downloadable content (DLC) sends Agent 47 to an English countryside manor to eliminate Lilith, a woman central to a looming global pandemic. The preview hints that Lilith carries a dangerous virus – even a single touch from her could be fatal. This seems like a deliberate nod to Milla Jovovich’s work in the Resident Evil films, considering the teaser’s horror elements and the overall storyline. Lilith’s rise within the Ether Corporation, marked by the suspicious deaths of her coworkers, strongly resembles the cutthroat power struggles and leadership style seen in the Umbrella Corporation from Resident Evil, effectively bringing that series’ vibe into the Hitman world.

The teaser suggests this new installment is heading in a really exciting direction – it feels like a blend of the Hitman and Resident Evil universes, which fans will likely love. We don’t yet know how the disease affects people or if Agent 47 will face zombies or undead creatures, but it promises a fresh and enjoyable experience, especially with the new World of Assassination DLC on the way.

Agent 47’s adventures have thrown him into some wild situations, including facing off against villains like Mads Mikkelsen’s character from Casino Royale, partnering with a disguised Bruce Lee, and even helping Eminem retire his alter ego, Slim Shady. The new story featuring Milla Jovovich feels different though – more suspenseful and less focused on over-the-top, self-aware scenarios like the martial arts competitions or the previous episodes’ settings of mental hospitals and recording studios. Considering how different the Hitman and Resident Evil series are in terms of style and the types of dangers they present, a proper crossover was always unlikely. However, this new project feels like the closest players will ever get to seeing Agent 47 face the kinds of threats common in Resident Evil. The fact that it’s called “Patient Zero: Requiem,” tying into the new Resident Evil game, and features Milla Jovovich makes this unofficial team-up especially exciting.
