This FromSoftware action RPG is a must-play favorite of mine, cheaper than ever on Cyber Monday — no, it’s not Elden Ring

As a huge fan of FromSoftware, when I think about their best games, I immediately picture the incredible Dark Souls series – that’s really what put them on the map for a lot of people. Of course, Elden Ring is right up there too, especially after winning Game of the Year in 2022. It’s just an amazing game!

Before the challenging worlds of games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring, FromSoftware created the exciting, high-speed mecha series Armored Core. In 2023, they released the latest installment, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon.

Both longtime Armored Core fans and new players alike will enjoy this game, and it’s currently on sale for Cyber Monday! You can get it on Xbox or PlayStation for just $19.99 on Amazon, or for $21.97 on PC at Loaded. That’s a fantastic price, considering it usually costs around $60, but has recently been selling for $30 to $40.

Don’t sleep on Armored Core — trust me

Many fans of recent FromSoftware games, myself included until Armored Core 6, hadn’t experienced the Armored Core series. When I reviewed it for Windows Central, I was quickly captivated. Despite being quite different from their popular Souls-like games, it quickly became a favorite.

Armored Core plays very differently from games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring, which are currently discounted. Instead of large, open levels and limited ways to change your character, Armored Core features straightforward missions and lets you fully customize your mech whenever you like. This focuses on building and rebuilding your machine rather than long-term character development.

Armored Core VI maintains FromSoftware’s signature challenging but rewarding gameplay. Success depends on both carefully customizing your mech with the right equipment for each mission and skillfully piloting it in combat. Players must use their mech’s speed and agility to dodge attacks and gain the upper hand.

Armored Core 6 shares some qualities with the Souls games, particularly the importance of precise dodging and learning enemy patterns. Like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, it features a system where you can break an enemy’s stance by playing aggressively.

This game strikes a great balance between the deep character customization of games like Souls and the challenging, skill-based combat of Sekiro. It’s a fantastic action RPG, and the compelling story and beautiful presentation really enhance the experience. Plus, with Cyber Monday deals, it’s more affordable than ever, making now the perfect time to jump in.
